Rep. Cantor Launches Partisan Smear Campaign Against Pelosi For Syria Visit
Rep. Eric Cantor (R-VA), the chief deputy minority whip in the House, has launched a partisan smear campaign against Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) for visiting Syria. He writes in the National Review:

The Speaker and many of her Democratic allies have become so drunk with grandiose visions of deposing Bush that they break bread with terrorists and enemies of the United States. The Speaker’s words and actions carry consequences for U.S. policy, and they certainly did our allies no favors last week. Instead of standing united with the president and Congress against the Syrian menace, Mrs. Pelosi chose to needlessly divide us.

Nowhere in his 700-word diatribe does Cantor mention the fact that five Republicans “broke bread” with Assad last week: Reps. Frank Wolf, Joseph Pitts, Robert Aderholt, David Hobson, and Darrell Issa.

Meanwhile, on his blog, Cantor is conducting a campaign to “Stop Pelosi.” He writes that Congress has “remained silent on Pelosi’s misrepresentation of Israel’s position. They have remained silent on her assistance to Syrian propaganda efforts.”

Unsurprisingly, Cantor is falsifying the record. Here are the facts:

Pelosi Was Asked To Communicate A Message And She Did. Before she left for Syria, Olmert’s spokeswoman Miri Eisin said “Pelosi is conveying that Israel is willing to talk if they (Syria) would openly take steps to stop supporting terrorism.” And that’s what Pelosi did: “We conveyed to him Prime Minister Olmert’s overture for peace talks when Syria openly takes steps to stop supporting terrorism.”

Pelosi Communicated A Consistent Message. Republican Congressman David Hobson said Pelosi “did not engage in any bashing of Bush in any meeting I was in and she did not in any meeting I was in bash the policies as it relates to Syria.” Republican Congressman Joseph Pitts noted, “Ms. Pelosi contacted us while we were in Israel, and we told her the message we gave. The message she gave Syria was similar to the message we gave.”

Cantor encourages his readers to contact Congress: “It is time for House Democrats to hear from you about how unhappy you are with Speaker Pelosi’s trip to Damascus.” Actually, it’s time for Rep. Cantor to hear from you — go leave a message in his comments section or give his office a call and tell him to stop his partisan-motivated attacks against Pelosi.

7. Thanks For This
Called all the people on the list. Many of them did not know anything about it. Engel's office asked if I was a constituent (which where committee business is involved I don't think should count for a NY second). I said no, but as Cantor is urging people to call and complain about her I feel it is fair to do the opposite. They didn't know about it and stopped with the constituent business.

Please keep the pressure on, we’ve got to malign Nancy Pelosi. <end>
:wtf:

See how the reThuglicans have spread their slime mold thinking:

Definitions of malign on the Web:

- evil or harmful in nature or influence; "prompted by malign motives"; "believed in witches and malign spirits"; "gave him a malign look"; "a malign lesion"

- badmouth: speak unfavorably about; "She badmouths her husband everywhere"

- malefic: having or exerting a malignant influence; "malevolent stars"; "a malefic force"

18. Try to screencap or copy your post. Somebody is changing the content.

Oooh! They are not just moderating the comments on Cantor’s blog, they are *changing* them. I sent this:

“Dear Eric; I just called my congressmen like you wanted me to. I told him that I completely support everything Ms. Pelosi has done since January 20th. I did not tell him what a wanker you are, so your secret is safe for now.”

What appeared on the site was this:

“# Argonaut Says:

Dear Eric; “I just called my congressman like you wanted me to. I told him that I want ms. pelosi to stop everything she has done since Jan 20th.”

So guys, check back and see what they are doing.

23. Letter sent to Eric Cantor, Deputy Republican Whip
Mr. Cantor:

It is the late Yizhak Rabin who said "You don't make peace with your friends." That wisdom seems to be lost on the Bush regime, which is one of many reasons why Mr. Bush will go down in history as the worst president ever.

The Bush regime is a complete failure. His only idea of a diplomat is a fully armed Cruise missile. Those haven't worked too well in bringing stability to Iraq or in alleviating tensions in the Middle East. Somebody has to pick up the slack for Mr. Bush and, speaking as a private citizen, I am delighted to have Speaker Pelosi do it.

Speaker Pelosi's trip was by no means a failure. If this opens the door for future negotiations between Syria and Israel, then it was a resounding success. If it opens the door for negotiations between the United States and Syria when a responsible administration comes to power, then it was a resounding success.

For reasons of public safety, it is my hope that a responsible administration replaces the Bush regime sooner rather than later. There are, as you are aware but will not yet publicly admit, good reasons to remove both Mr. Bush and Mr. Cheney from power now rather than wait until January 2009, by which time the US could be at war with even more nations than at present and with no allies to be found anywhere. Should the rogues be removed sooner rather than later, then they will be replaced by President Nancy Pelosi.

Her mission to the Middle East only assured me that we will be in good hands should Mr. Bush and Mr. Cheney be impeached and removed from office, as they both richly deserve.

Jack Rabbit,

Stop the Republican Lies...........She went there with other 'Republicans' such as the ignorant
Darrell Issa, are you going to 'Stop' him also?
At least someone is over there 'talking' diplomacy, instead of bombing and sending our troops
into illegal invasions.

Nancy Pelosi is a hero, she stands up for peace

How about you, are you willing to 'Stand up for Peace'
Instead of sitting down for War?

OH MEOW

27. Done, attached:
As a Virginian and a proud member of the Virginia Army National Guard (who you personally met on the tarmac at Richmond Int’l airport last summer before our departure to the Mexican-US border), I fully think that this “call to arms” is, and I say this with all due respect, political hackery at its worst.

It is because of wilfully deceiving spin such as yours that I support (and vote for) a fully Democratic ticket in the Commonwealth. Given any opportunity, I communicate with my fellow servicemembers about the merits of supporting the more military-friendly Democratic Party.

I told him he should shut up if he's not going to step up and complain about his own colleagues who went to Syria a week before Pelosi did. I said "oh, I get it. That's DIFFERENT..."

I said I was delighted Pelosi went to Syria and started talking to those people - which is what bush and contradicta SHOULD be doing, and if they aren't up to it, or they insist on acting like spoiled, arrogant, asinine kindergarteners, I'm glad she did. And I added that the only complaint I have about Speaker Pelosi is that she hasn't put IMPEACHMENT back on the table.

2:15pm, pacific time, which means the offices are open back there in DC for another few minutes.

BTW: If you call this asshole, and you want to masquerade as a "fellow republi-CON," MAKE SURE YOU SPEAK THEIR LANGUAGE. If you refer to the Dems, make sure you always say "democrat party." They'll think you're one of them.
