It is time to invoke the Nuclear Option. No questions asked. Here's why.
It's the BLUE DOGS coalition that will be destroyed by the nuclear option - the constitutents WILL get what they have been demanding - full single payer health care plan, no more bullshit. The bullshit stops right here. If no nuclear option is invoked, then I may suggest that either Mr. Reid step down from his Majority Leadership because he's a fucking milequetoast and probably a stealth BD to boot. We need a REAL Democrat that can get the ball rolling to give Americans what they want, kickstart the economy, remove the cap of FICA to ensure the viability of Social Security, roll back Reagan and Chimp tax cuts for the wealthy, invoke ALL windfall profit taxes by 110% retroactive to 2000 (ensuring that the oil/gas industry nets exactly ZERO), and use the windfall profits to restart refineries that were "shut down" to make profits, as well as use the money for alternate energy research so we can finally end the unnecessary wars, remove corporate personhood, and then fine 100% of their profits, again retroactive to 2000 for THOSE who have offshored our jobs so they can reimport crap cheap, effectively shutting down corporate. Remove the tax-exempt status of all churches/synagogue/mosques - they've had it too long, and the preachers needs to start paying attention what the Bible preaches, not what they *THINK* they should be allowed to preach. I'm sure we can think a few more, but it's a start somewhere. The nuclear option can then be removed from consideration and forbidden to be used unless it is an EXTREME emergency (certain triggers from economic/job/mood status). Also, the insane asylums needs to be re-enacted so we can put the fringe of all fringes into its appropriate places - (that includes fruitcakes, wingbats, nutfucks, birthers, fundies and Republicans).

1. Agreed. No input from insurance companies at all.
Cut 'em off at the knees. One of the best one paragraph posts I've ever seen in here since 2001. I agree wholeheartedly.

2. Do you really believe if they are unwilling to keep the Senate in session and not recess
until a healthcare bill is passed that they would somehow scrape up the courage to use the nuclear option? I don't see it happening. Not that maybe it should not, it simply will not happen. Take it to the bank.

invoke ALL windfall profit taxes by 110% retroactive to 2000

Tax all profits by 110% going back for the last decade? OK...weirdo. Oh sure, you just mean windfall taxes...I'm sure you have a carefully worked out theory behind all that bluster.

Also, the insane asylums needs to be re-enacted so we can put the fringe of all fringes into its appropriate places - (that includes fruitcakes, wingbats, nutfucks, birthers, fundies and Republicans).

You go first, buddy. 'The insane asylums need to be re-enacted'?

7. So you have a problem with that.
Explain to me exactly why it won't work.

Come on, I dare you.

13. So if someone makes $100, legally, we should tax them $110?
And we should do it retroactively, yes? So, someone makes a wise investment, or gets lucky, depending on your point of view, and makes a million bucks a year for 10 years. You say that they should pay $11 million in tax...that is, pay more tax than they made profit. This is idiotic for 3 reasons:

1) retroactive laws are fundamentally dishonest. That's why They're prohibited to both the federal government and States in Article 1, Sections 9 and 10 of the US Constitution.

2) Taxing someone for more than the amount of money they made (in the future) is ridiculous, since you are levying a claim on money they don't even have. As above, if someone makes a million dollars, and you tax them $1,100,000, where are they supposed to come up with the extra $100,000? They've already given you all the money they made.

3) Leaving aside this conflict with basic mathematics, why would I want to engage in any kind of economic activity whatsoever if someone's going to just come along and take away anything and everything I might make in the process? you know, why bother producing, manufacturing, or selling anything in that case? I might as well just go sit on the beach or stay in bed all day.

10. A system where the government gets to decide who's insane, based on what they believe
and can lock them up for no other reason. Sweet! This would really help us get our constitutional rights back.

8. I don't get you!?!?
here, you say AMEN to "It's the BLUE DOGS coalition that will be destroyed by the nuclear option - the constitutents WILL get what they have been demanding - full single payer health care plan, no more bullshit. The bullshit stops right here."

but in another thread about government healthcare, you are arguing with me saying universal healthcare won't work because doctors will turn patients away (limit how many they will accept) or not accept the reimbursement (and want only cash?)? Where are you coming from and what do you agree with?

9. I'm too tired for this shit!
I NEVER argued with you, so calm the fuck down!

I said, and I prefaced it with "IT's dangerous to ask a question on DU" so thanks for proving that true, that there are two questions I've had because of problems with the national system.

Really, you need to take a deep breath..,, PEOPLE ARE ALLOWED TO QUESTION.

IF YOU CAN'T SEE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN QUESTIONS AND ARGUING, YOU NEED TO TAKE A NAP.

5. Aren't the Blue Dogs a feature of the House of Representatives?
Where filibuster, cloture, and the nuclear option do not apply?

Also, don't congressional districts which elect Blue Dogs differ from you and I in what they demand from government?

The biggest problem with the Blue Dogs, it seems to me, is that they give Democrats an entirely false sense of the magnitude of our Congressional majority.

17. K & R... On the tax thing, make it 200% on windfall profits AND war profits.
This way, they won't get the idea that they can do this again.
Get rid of the corporations. They are what got us into this mess.
Nationalize all major industries, like health care, energy, banking, farming. This way they can't think that they can come back as something else.
Have a maximum income as well as a minimum wage. Anyone who needs more than $1,000,000 a year, unless they are supporting an army, is making way too much.

The Blue Dog Coalition is a group 52 Democrats in the HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, not the Senate.
