I have a question: where was everyone when Gates' house was broken into?
Gates described his driver, whose car service Gates uses regularly, as a large, Moroccan man. The driver brought Gates's three bags to the front door, but when the professor tried to turn the lock, it would not budge. After going around and unlocking the rear door, Gates returned to the front, which still would not open.

"I thought it had been latched from the inside by my secretary who comes to get the mail," Gates said, "but the lock had been tampered with. I said, 'Let's just push it.'"

Wow to hear the corporate news tell it Gates had every right to be arrested, kind of like how they report on health care also. It's not surprising.

6. Not everyone has neighbors worth knowing.
I have no desire to interact with most of mine.

8. Isolationism isn't all it's cracked up to be.
Maybe if you made the effort, you might find out they're not as bad as you think. Then again....

9. What about the alarm system?
A university professor should be able to afford an inexpensive alarm system. Who turned it off?

10. I's gates a locksmith now?
In which way or manner was the lock tampered with?

Maybe a better explanation is that the weather around here has been hot, raining, cold then hot again.

Doors and door frames can swell and contract in that kind of weather causing the bolt to jam up enough that
one is unable to turn the key (remember... he had to put his weight/shoulder to it in order to open it).

Besides... what kind of burglar attempts breaking in through the front door?

12. Not a very smart one, but it happens.
Right across the street from my house, just a few months back. She was home and hit the panic button on her alarm, so he made a hasty exit.

13. Yep, could be. I have an old house with a big, heavy front door. It has been almost
impossible to open on these mornings here in CT when it has been raining a lot overnight.

As for breaking in through the front door, my next door neighbor's house was broken into through a completely visible side window. Or at least that's what the neighbor "said." I have my suspicions (insurance fraud, they said a fur coat had been stolen and thishouse is a Sec. 8 rental...).

16. A while back, burglars broke into a nearby bank.
They turned on every light in the place, opened up the blinds and 2 of them vacuumed the carpets while their buddy drilled the safe. They waved at the cops who drove by. Half a $million they carried away. (This happened on my cop brother's shift...although not in his district.)
