Crist opposes Sotomayor confirmation
He must be worried about his right flank. It's still a risky position in FL.

http://www.politico.com/blogs/scorecard/

Florida Senate candidate Charlie Crist announced he is opposing the confirmation of Supreme Court justice Sonia Sotomayor, a surprise decision that comes after weeks of silence on the subject.

He said he held strong concerns about her commitment to upholding the Second Amendment’s protection of gun rights and also believed that she “would not strictly and objectively construe the constitution” based on her Senate Judiciary Committee testimony.

"While I have not had the opportunity to meet personally with Judge Sotomayor--a crucial step in the selection process--I have reviewed and reflected upon her testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee, and come to the conclusion that I cannot support her appointment to the United States Supreme Court,” Crist said in a statement.

“Judge Sotomayor is worthy of respect for her many accomplishments and her remarkable story of success. However, I have strong concerns that Judge Sotomayor would not strictly and objectively construe the constitution and lacks respect for the fundamental right to keep and bear arms. For these reasons, I cannot support her appointment to the highest court in the land."

2. Is this a joke?
Crist is a governor, with absolutely NO say in the confirmation of any US Supreme Court Justices. He's only a candidate, not a Senator.

This has to be a joke.

politico has to be pulling someone's leg. With Crist's Latino constituency, he cannot possibly be making inane, worthless statements like this................................

6. It shocks me, too
Mel Martinez plans to vote "yes". Maybe he is trying to be another Giuliani. You know, the white "moderate" who feed on suspicions about minorities. But in FLORIDA?

12. Why it matters
He's running for an open seat and is strongly favored to win. BUT he's apparently worried about his right flank against Rubi and thus he comes out against Sotomayor in FL of all places. If he keeps this up, he may give us an opening.

11. it still amazes me
How so many people have this paranoia of the government coming around collecting everyones guns. It isn't going to happen. Crist knows that, of course, but it's the whackadoodles in the base that he's pandering to. Of course, these are the same people who think a three percent marginal tax increase on the top percentile equates to socialism and picket against policies that wouldn't even effect their lives (people making over 250K a year don't picket, I feel safe in asserting).
