30 or more U.S. troops have been killed this month in Afghanistan
Edited on Mon Jul-20-09 01:09 PM by backtoblue
Bomb kills 4 U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan
Of the 55 international troops killed so far in July, 30 of them are American

updated 40 minutes ago
KABUL - Four U.S. soldiers died Monday when a roadside bomb exploded in eastern Afghanistan, the U.S. military said.

No further details were released. A British soldier was killed Sunday in southern Afghanistan.

Those deaths bring to at least 55 the number of international troops killed in Afghanistan in July, the deadliest month of the war for the NATO mission.

At least 30 U.S. troops have died this month — two more than the death toll for June 2008, which had been the deadliest month for American forces in Afghanistan.

Anyone else tired of war, tired of death tolls and nothing but grief to show for it?

1. Yet now we are stuck in Iraq, because someone had to kill
Saddam and loot the country. :eyes:

Thanks Dick.

2. Cannon fodder for politicians and generals to use for CYA.
Admitting to a lost war makes politicians and generals uncomfortable. Better to pretend it's still "winnable" and send more troops to kill and die than be embarrassed.

3. I say get out, leave, fix our own shit here at home.
Pride is not always a good thing, especially when it comes at the expense of peoples' lives.

5. But where is the profit in that? The greedy MIC needs war and Obama seems happy to oblige.

8. What does "winnable" mean? What is our mission?..
Obama has used the word "mission" but he's oh, so careful not to get into specifics. One of his underlings said a few weeks ago that we're in Afghanistan to protect the Afghan people from the Taliban. I laughed so hard I almost choked.

Mission? Take a look at this:

http://www.theodora.com/pipelines/middle_east_oil_gas_products_pipelines_map.html

See those red and green dotted lines going through Afghanistan? They're proposed oil and gas pipeines.

The US MIC doesn't care how many Afghans (or how many American soldiers, for that matter) have to die in order for us to get our hands on those resources. The War Against Terror (TWAT) is bogus.

And isn't it conveeeeenient that 9/11 happened just in time to get the support of the populace for the resource wars? Yep, Cheney sure did luck-out. Imagine that!

Cui bono??

9. How quickly we forget about these things!!!
Once we were able to put in the pipelines - we left for the most part. Now, people are screaming to get out of Iraq and guess what? We go back to Afghanistan. It's time to leave those people and THEIR resources alone.

thanks nt.

it was in one of those myspace tag pages. I googled "smiley graphics" and then just searched for something I liked.

10. I knew one of those soldiers killed this month....
He was 36 years old. I attended his funeral this past weekend.

His family lived two houses from me, back in the day, when we were all young parents. His older sister and my children played together and were best friends for years.

Seeing his mom and dad this weekend broke my heart. He was dad's only child and only son. (This is a step-family).

I have no words. What a colossal, horrible waste. For what?

Yes, I'm tired of war and death, and grief.

11. I am so very sorry truth2power.
This has touched you more profoundly than it has me, as I have known no one who has been killed during war. My sincerest thoughts are with the fallen soldier, his family, and with you.

18. I read an article that announced a new "war on drugs" in Afghanistan.
I think Opium is the least of our worries - let them be, let them live, let us live.

19. US. OUT. NOW!
We MUST DEMAND that the US leave Afghanistan NOW!

We MUST leave before one more American soldier dies.

We MUST leave before one more innocent Afghani child is killed by a Drone attack.

We MUST leave because it is the ONLY moral thing to do.

Afghanstan has NOT attacked the US, and it poses NO threat to us.

We are there because we are an empire -- and empires fight imperial wars.

WE MUST LEAVE NOW!
