Did Buchanan do as well as Sotomayor in college?

July 17, 2009 12:28 pm ET by Eric Boehlert

Watching Pat Buchanan's not-so-slow descent into Sotomayor madness has been a depressing spectacle to watch, and an embarrassing one for MSNBC to sponsor.

Witness his attack last night on The Rachel Maddow Show, in which he claimed he graduated from Georgetown University "as high as did" at Princeton, and added, "I'm not qualified for the United States Supreme Court. And neither is she."

But in his 1990 book Right from the Beginning," Buchanan wrote that after being arrested and expelled for assaulting police officers and subsequently allowed to return after his father, "by personal pleading, had the expulsion reduced," "I was graduated cum laude" {original emphasis} from Georgetown in 1961.

1. So he got special treatment
Just like he claims Sotomayor did.

You can certainly bet Sotomayor's family was not positioned to have the clout to influence the college's decision. So Buchanan benefited from affirmative action for rich white boys.

12. But remember the affirmative action of race and class privilege is
acceptable.

2. Pat Buchanan
used to be a reasonable man. But then we had Bush as President.

Pat is bat-shit crazy again and all is right with the world.

4. I just don't understand how he doesn't ever learn
Buchanan is trapped in the 60's. He's a smart guy, but he's not wise.

6. Gotta Love When "Legacy" Bitch About Qutoas
Look at how many rushpublicans have had strings pulled for them along the way. They were "legacies" or had a powerful daddy who could buy their way to a nice job or out of the military.

It's been said over and over, Pitchfork Pat permanently lives in the 1950s...
