Senator Lugar (R-IN) is First Republican to Back Sotomayor
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/07/17/AR2009071701310.html?hpid=topnews

Indiana Sen. Richard K. Lugar this morning became the first Republican to pledge support for Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor, who appears to have largely diffused allegations of judicial bias during three days of intense questioning about whether she is fit to sit on the nation's highest court.

"Judge Sotomayor is clearly qualified . . . and she has demonstrated a judicial temperament during her week-long nomination hearing," Lugar said in a statement. ". . . I will vote to confirm Judge Sonia Sotomayor's nomination to serve as an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States."

2. Some of the repugs know that Sessions & Graham w/ their patronizing
& bitter white man act is killing the party. Go ahead piss off women and Hispanics and try to win an election.

3. Lugar ~~ especially for a Pubbie ~~ is often a good guy.
I am hoping Lindsay joins with him. I think if that happened, Sessions head might explose and I would just love that!

5. Lugar is one of the few Pubbies I've voted for regularly
He is a rock-ribbed conservative to be sure but he's also very thoughtful and pragmatic- definitely NOT an ideologue. If we were ever again, great maker forbid, to have Republican President I'd feel most comfortable with him. Unfortunately, there are not quite enough Republicans like him left. Sad.
