While I am an idealist at heart, I also like to check in with reality from time to time. I must say that the national conversation under Obama is far superior to Bush.

Instead of let the "free market" handle healthcare, we have single payer vs public option.

Instead of we should hate gay people cause Jeebus says so, (even though Jesus never said anything like that) we have should people be treated fairly under the law.

The conversation is better and although things aren't 100% where I wish they were, I am very appreciative that the conversation is a million times more intellegent and complex then it ever was under Bush.

I had no preconceived notions of what Pres. Obama would look like, I just wanted things to be better for more people. Are they perfect? No, that is what all our hard work is for. Are they any better? We'll see, but the conversation is better and for that I am happy.

2. it's a million times better
elections matter. If we had a GOP administration and a GOP Congress, we'd be discussing another RW Supreme Court pick, and we'd be defending against Social Security privitization, and more overseas adventures, and other RW extremist moves. Instead, we are reforming the economy in a progressive direction.

3. We should also note from the strictly political perspective that politics is taking place within
the Democratic Party at this point. The Republicans have become, since their unanimous vote against the stimulus package, almost completely marginalized. The discussion now is between Obama, Schumer, Baucus, Durbin, etc. While we may not be head over heels for all those people, at least we're not bowing to people like Sen. Cornyn or Inhofe on the matter of health care at the moment.

7. I agree, but Clinton 2.0 is better than Bush 3.0
We have the mandate, our views are at least documented.

That is a big step forward, no matter how you look at it.

Never give up, I agree with 90% of what you said. I voter for better. Even if it is only marginally better, I'm happy with the the change.

9. I don't advocate doing nothing, I advocate fighting harder
Just called Chuck Shumer's office and told him to fuck off. I suggest you do the same.

This trigger until 2013 is garbage and so is the difficulty in enrolling in the public option. Please call his offices and tell him so.
