Both Desi Arnaz/Ricky Ricardo and Sonia Sotomayor came from humble beginnings, but went on to exemplify what "the American Dream" is supposed to be all about.

Arnaz was patriotic; in his memoirs, the first object of thanks is the United States itself:

Over the show's six-year run, the fortunes of the Ricardos mirror that of the archetypal 1950s American Dream: At first, they live in a tiny brownstone apartment; Ricky's fortunes continue to improve, and they move into a slightly larger one with a view after Little Ricky is born.
