1. Wasn't He On Rummy's Payroll?
A pay for play pundit? Of course they don't want the secrets revealed as they were complicit in war crimes and other misinformation. Many know the dirty secrets and can't wash the blood off their hands.

7. I don't think so; I think that was McCaffrey. He was criticized for
pushing the Pentagon's propaganda.

Propaganda Controversy

In April 2008, the New York Times published a front page report by David Barstow confirming that military analysts hired by ABC, CBS and NBC to present unbiased observations about the conduct of the war in Iraq - including McCaffrey and the late Wayne Downing - had undisclosed ties to the Pentagon and/or military contractors. Former Army Major General John Batiste told National Public Radio that there was "a very deliberate attempt on the part of the administration to shape public opinion" about the war. One of the participants, Robert S. Bevelacqua, a retired Green Beret and former Fox News analyst, said of the program, "It was them saying, 'We need to stick our hands up your back and move your mouth for you'." And Kenneth Allard, a former NBC military analyst, called the campaign "a coherent, active policy," and lamented, "I felt we’d been hosed."<5>

In late Nov 2008, the New York Times published another front page article by Barstow, this time specifically profiling General McCaffrey. It detailed his free movement between roles as a paid advocate for defense companies, media analyst and a retired officer.<5> An earlier report<8> with some of the same information had appeared in The Nation in April, 2003 but was not widely picked up. McCaffrey and his consulting firm BR McCaffrey Associates, LLC responded to the Times piece, stating that he is "absolutely committed to objective, non-partisan public commentary". The response highlighted his military record, as well as his history of criticizing the execution of the Iraq War and specifically Rumsfeld.<6>

David Barstow later received a Pulitzer Prize for his investigative reporting on the scandal.<7>

2. It really doesn't matter anymore. It's beyond spin.
The cat is so far out of the bag now a litter of chirping baby birds couldn't coax him back in. The entire friggin world knows that Cheney is a war criminal.

What they don't know is why he is still walking around loose.

5. j. jacobs is a president for lehman bros. also a tool and paid misinformation
spokesman for the defense department and industry.

For some added irony: on his NBS News broadcast last night suppressing any mention of David Barstow's Pulitzer Prize, Brian Williams' lead story concerned Obama's trip to the CIA yesterday. Featured in that story was commentary from Col. Jack Jacobs, identified on-screen this way: "Retired, NBC News Military Analyst." Jacobs was one of the retired officers who was an active member of the Pentagon's "military analyst" program, and indeed, he actively helped plan the Pentagon's media strategy at the very same time he was posing as an "independent analyst" on NBC (h/t reader gc; via NEXIS). So not only did Williams last night conceal from his viewers any mention of the Pentagon program, he featured -- on the very same broadcast -- "independent" commentary from one of the central figures involved in that propaganda program.

For more, read David Barstow's Pulitzer Prize winning New York Times coverage of the propaganda mill click here and here. SourceWatch offers a list of those 'retired' military officials who shill:
