2. It's all about power. His association with The Family confirms this.

Somehow, this group of egomaniacs - a cult - has convoluted the Bible/Jesus and Nazism and applied it to power within our government. Personal relationships mean nothing to the members; it's all about loyalty to the group and attaining more power. So, Ensign's family members and women with whom he's had affairs are minor players. This most recent affair became a liability when it went public, threatening to expose The Family (which it has, thankfully).

I was amused to hear that Ensign was forced to write a letter to the most current mistress by The Family, then they escorted him to FedEx to mail it. When he was alone afterwards, he immediately phoned and told her to ignore the letter then visited her the next day. LOL. The Family can't be happy about that and he's surely in hot water now with them.

About 6-7 members of Congress live at The Family's compound on C Street, including Tom Coburn. It is listed as a "church" and enjoys non-profit status (WTF?). If you haven't seen it, here's the segment from Rachel Maddow last night:
