Police say man had explosive device in car

NORTON - From the day he moved into a tidy apartment building here two years ago, Jason Driscoll’s behavior seemed a bit strange to the other residents. They recalled yesterday how he would wander in circles in the backyard at night, wearing knee-high rubber boots and a headband with a light on it.

“He would do things that would just make you shake your head,’’ said Shane Wilson, 17, who has lived one floor below Driscoll at 249 South Worcester St. “I think everybody here was kind of worried what he was capable of.’’

Driscoll, 37, an unemployed ironworker, was arraigned yesterday morning in Attleboro District Court and charged with possession of an explosive device. His lawyer entered a not-guilty plea.

Assistant District Attorney Jessica Lennon said an informant who has worked with authorities in the past led police to Driscoll Monday evening as he drove his tan Nissan Maxima, with a handmade explosive device in the trunk, near a Little League game attended by dozens of people. The field is located just blocks from Driscoll’s apartment.
