Are the high gas prices the result of early daylight savings time?
Edited on Sat Apr-07-07 06:07 PM by gatorboy
Daylight savings was bumped up three weeks earlier this year supposedly to cut down on energy costs. The theory being, more daylight equals less energy use in the home. But at the same time, gas prices have sky rocketed because with more daylight many more folks stay on the road longer.

So my question is, does it matter? You might save energy and costs in the home but they're still sticking you at the pumps!

1. It's supposed to be because the formulation for "summer gas" is
different and costs more to refine. I have no idea if that's true or just a line of BS from the enegry companies, but that's the story.

3. C'mon, is that true?
Someone actually suggested that summer gas is different from gas used during other seasons?

As Neo would say,

"Whoa."

8. The formulation is different
"summer gas" is less volatile for use in higher temp conditions.

I've never heard of either winter gas or summer gas being of different costs to manufacture though.

11. It seemed as though the article was suggesting that the tanks had
to be completely empty of the existing gasoline before being refilled with the "new" gas. That doesn't pass the smell test. If the storage tanks shouldn't be cross contaminated, shouldn't you be taking the same precautions in your car? Wouldn't the streets and" highways be blocked with stalled cars that dared use "winter gas" after the preordained date? I think it's all profiteering bullshit. They are screwing us as hard and often as they can, because the end may be near. Or maybe they just like to hear us squeal like pigs. Either way, I think this whole summer/winter gas explanation is a bunch of hooey.

The mention of a higher priced barrel lifts the price ,lord Jowls pulled reasons out of his ass why the reverse isn't true.

15. It's because they can, and we can't do a thing about it.
Who cares what bogus reason they provide? It's a fun, new one every time. They're inventive, I'll give them that much.

9. No
It's because the world is running out of oil. Other factors yes, but the main factor is still supply and demand.

AS more of the great fields peak and then decline, like Ghawar in Saudi Arabia and Cantarell in New Mexico, 3rd world countries will not be able to pay for oil, then they cant make the cheap crap we buy from them. ANd since here in the US we dont have the manufacturing capacity to make cheap crap, or even not so cheap crap, we're fucked.

Unless Dr Bussards IEC fusion works out..

Edited on Sat Apr-07-07 07:57 PM by spanone
the high prices are probably due to the fact that the oil companies took it on the chin for bush* during the election. they're just making up their profits.
