I worked for Gene Redden who was the one who fought and won the right for this industrial park way back in the summer of '62 or '63, can't remember which, during its earliest days. If this pans out the little quiet Mayes County that I've always known will forever change. On the one hand I'm elated while on the other I'm sad.

The news that the giant Internet search-engine company may build a data center at the MidAmerica Industrial Park also got a buzz going around Pryor in almost nothing flat Friday. Folks like jobs around here, just like they do everywhere else.

(snip)

If so, the move would mark yet another significant success for the Mid- America park just outside of this city of 9,000. The 47-year-old industrial park has about 70 tenants.

A Gatorade plant that is expected to employ about 300 people is under construction, while J.B. Hunt, Air Products and other large employers already are in place.

"Good, clean and high-paying jobs -- that's what we're looking for," said MidAmerica Industrial Park administrator Sanders Mitchell. "That type of company draws attention."
