Billy Mays - RIP
http://mediadecoder.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/06/28/billy-mays-tv-pitchman-dies/?hp
Billy Mays, TV Pitchman, Dies

<snip>In a week unusually rife with celebrity death, it’s a little spooky to note that the king of pop, Michael Jackson, and the king of pitchmen, Billy Mays, were born within about six weeks of each other in 1958.

Mr. Mays, who was found dead this morning by his wife in their Tampa, Fla., home

It gets into the matting and the padding ...I guess all we have left is the whore beating, butt wow pusher ...Vince Shlomi.

:(

2. "I guess all we have left is... Vince Shlomi." Isn't Mr. Popeil still alive?

(I guess Weird Al never got around to making a video for his B52's-esque "Mr. Popeil.")

3. I always used the mute on the poor guy.
I'd say "Oh shit! It's that refugee from the Grecian Formula test lab again."

Yep. Every time.

14. Well I feel like a real shit
because I would not only mute the sound, I would yell at the TV and tell him to "fuck off", "piss off", "kiss my ass", or "eat shit and die".

I suppose I'll have to do penance and buy some Kaboom toilet cleaner or something...

6. Now that is weird. Last night, for no particular reason at all, I wondered what
Billy Mays' death would be like, or more precisely, whether it would be noted in the media at all.

Weird coincidence for me.

15. Now Mr. Marr, if you would just step aside here for a moment,
the airport police would like to ask you a few questions.

8. ABC ran a clip from yesterday when he was at the airport
saying that they had a hard landing and and he was hit on his head.

If they can prove a cause and effect, that airline is going to have a major lawsuit on its hand.

9. This is such a loss....
there will never be another 'Billy Mays'. What a shame. I loved watching Pitchmen, and not sure if Discovery will continue on, but I hope they do after a break. Anthony Sullivan will be lost without Billy. Billy Mays made a lot of ordinary people rich.

16. It looks as though his days were numbered career-wise as well...
"Bill would turn down volume on TV ads

WASHINGTON -- Congress soon might mute screaming TV-ad announcers who press viewers to "buy now!" -- if broadcasters don't beat the lawmakers to the volume button.

Under a proposal to be taken up today, the Federal Communications Commission would limit ad volumes to the average decibels of the TV show during which they appear."

24. oh that is good news
Just one of those little frustrating things... no big deal but it'll be nice to not be blasted out of our chairs during commercials.

Nothing against Billy Mays--he was loud but presumably that's how his corporate customers wanted him to be.

23. I was just starting to appreciate the Pitchmen show
And although I could find Billy Mays voice annoying, he did have a persuasive voice with lots of enthusiasm.

One of my favorite Pitchmen shows was when Billy went to film a drill auger attachment for a friend of his who had become a double amputee. Could tell Billy cared for this guy and wanted to help this friend out.

Billy, sell some good stuff in the afterlife. You were a natural. R.I.P.
