Hurricane Center eyes 'tropical wave' developing in Caribbean

HOUSTON—The National Hurricane Center on Friday was keeping tabs on a tropical wave over the Western Caribbean which has 30- to 50-percent chance of developing into a named storm in the next 48 hours.

The tropical wave is producing a large area of showers and thunderstorms from Cuba and the Cayman Islands southwestward to Honduras.

The Hurricane Center said no significant development was expected before the wave reaches the Yucatan Peninsula early Saturday, but conditions are forecast to become a little more favorable once it moves into the Gulf of Mexico late Saturday or Sunday.

Very early though, so we'll see what happens. Hurricane models have it going just about anywhere from the Texas/Mexico border to central Florida right now.
