Rep. Broun (Cro-Magnon-GA) calls global warming a hoax, receives applause on House floor
:freak: :freak: What did Green Day say about 'Idiot America'? :dunce:

Rep. Broun receives applause on the House floor for calling global warming a ‘hoax.’

During the floor debate this morning over the historic American Clean Energy and Security Act (ACES), Rep. Paul Broun (R-GA) received a round of applause from GOP colleagues when he claimed that man-made global warming is a “hoax” with “no scientific consensus.” Broun, citing misleading statistics, also claimed that the bill would hurt the poor and “kill jobs:”

BROUN: Scientists all over this world say that the idea of human induced global climate change is one of the greatest hoaxes perpetrated out of the scientific community. It is a hoax. There is no scientific consensus. … And who’s going to be hurt most the poor, the people on limited income…the people who can least afford to have their energy taxes raised by MIT says $3100 per family. … This bill must be defeated. We need to be good stewards of our environment, but this is not it, it’s a hoax! … (APPLAUSE.)

Broun’s tired hoax claims aside, Broun’s $3,100 talking point is contradicted by the Congressional Budget Office, which found that that the average cost of the legislation would be only 48-cents a day, the price of a postage stamp, and that “households in the lowest income quintile would see an average net benefit of about $40 in 2020.” A report by the Center for American Progress and the University of Massachusetts also found that the bill would create 1.7 billion new jobs, including 59,000 new jobs in Broun’s homestate of Georgia.

14. We should distinguish between epic stupidity and plain old corruption.
I guess from here, though, there's no effective difference.

And the only way to make a certain distinction is for stoopid to stop paying so well.

11. I wish he'd come to Houston for a week right now
and see if he thinks it's a hoax after that. We've been breaking temp records all week. It was 104 on Wed, the hottest June day ever recorded here. We got a little break yesterday. There was finally some measurable rain over some parts of the city which kept the temp down to 102, another record breaker nevertheless. Today is also expected to break a record. Hoax my ass!

Houston, I know about. I was born and raised there.

I'm North of there and it's a little better on the humidity but still not tolerable.

15. He sounds like a loyal Shittohead.

Probably verbatim from the script that Limbaugh reads several times a week.

When have they ever let facts and the truth get in their way?

Next he'll be telling us the WMD's have been found.

study writers themselves. Did a new report just come out or something because a lot of right-wingers are talking down climate change right now?

18. The problem we have in Georgia is that we get the reddest
of the red elected. The ONLY demographic consistent for the Republicans (the only demographic where they made a gain in the last election: all others showed decreases from 2004)is the uneducated white Southern male demographic. This is where the Republican Party lives these days. In order to squeak through each election, that demographic gets to pick the candidate.
So, we get Broun, Gingrey, Westmoreland, Chambliss.
A really pathetic group.

There was a dissident science professor from U of Ottawa with anarchist and left-wing views who sees global warming as being a hoax perpetrated by liberal factions of the bourgeoisie.

26. So many questions....
Is Broun a scientist? Is he an expert on global warming? What papers has he published? In which journals has he published? What conferences has he spoken at?

Has he even read the latest IPCC report? Did he understand it? If he didn't, did he ask anyone to explain it to him?

In short, DOES BROUN HAVE THE FAINTEST FUCKING CLUE WHAT HE IS TALKING ABOUT?!?

30. 48 cents a day?
Someone pulled that number right out of their ass. My fuel costs alone will be more than 48cents per day. And this will create 1.7 million jobs? Really? At the cost of 10 million current jobs?

Bullshit.

We need an honest debate and this ain't it.
