Sanford addressing his Cabinet at a meeting right now on MSNBC
He's apologizing to them, but Jesus! He's actually lecturing them on how they have obligations to the people of South Carolina even when he does wrong.

What a nerve.

1. P.S. He said his trip was legit at first....
But he stayed down there longer so he will reimburse.

I hope I got this paraphrased right. It smells to high heaven if I did hear it correctly.

4. As I heard it...
he said a trip last year when the affair was started was "legit", but turned into a personal visit. For that he will reimburse the taxpayers.

I'm not so sure retroactive integrity is how things are done, even for a once popular governor from SC. He's admitting using tax money for a tryst, then offering to do the right thing after he was caught.

As we've seen throughout, there's more here than immediately apparent.

9. Thanks for the clarification...
I was typing his "lecture" to his Cabinet while Nora O'D was telling about the reimbursement. I couldn't imagine how this current trip could have been legit since he kept it a secret. Thanks again!

7. That was the trip he took last year to Brazil and Argentinia,
not the most recent trip, which he said earlier he had paid for himself.

The first trip was billed as a Trade junket, which, it turns out, may have been in violation of US Trade Policy. The Argentinia leg of the trip was for extra-curricular activites as well as "trade". Question is what was he trading?

3. He certainly acted different today
Like he had his poop in a group and acting all confident. Meh. Impeach now.

5. If he's trying to take them to school his days are numbered
Christ. I've heard of arrogance but what he said is pretty brazen.

11. I've seen people act like this
I had a manager once who usually went on the offensive when she'd get caught doing something wrong. I guess they think it works but not in this digital, video age under the hot lights and where there are thousands of editorials ready with comment.

15. Classic narcissistic personality disorder.
Arrogant, condescending, austere, authoritarian, controlling, un-empathetic. Just the type you'd want to have a beer with, as long as you don't mind buying and leaving the tip.

Did I mention that Sanford's tighter than the paper on the wall? My friend's brother loaned him an RV for his campaign. Sanford never offered to buy gas, always wanted to eat bologna sandwiches on the bus to save money, etc. Of course, he's a multi-millionaire and his wife is independently wealthy, but he's a real "trickle down" kinda guy.

18. Apparently unable to stop lying as well.
Another sign. Continues to lie even when everyone knows he's lying.

the Waxman-Markey climate bill debate.

17. I'm sorry if I sounded a bit snarky there, eleny. It's just that this Micheal Jackson
Edited on Fri Jun-26-09 12:42 PM by Subdivisions
thing has me upset. I grew up with Micheal Jackson. I don't think he was an evil child molester. I think he was eccentric due to his upbringing, successes, and failures. I think he was misunderstood. But, damn. Give it a rest already. There are more important things happening. I know it's not appropriate for a state governor to disappear, then witness his staff either lie or be duped into mis-explaining his whereabouts, and I know it's not right for a "conservative" to do his wife and family that way. But, he has returned, fessed-up, and will pay the political price. So, give it a rest already. There are more important things happening.

I am the sort that sees these kinds of pop-culture and political sex scandal incidents as providing a possible cover for what TPTB may be doing while our attention is diverted. Turns out the massive Waxman-Markey Cap and Trade, aka http://energycommerce.house.gov/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=1622:chairmen-waxman-and-markey-introduce-the-american-clean-energy-and-security-act&catid=122:media-advisories&Itemid=80">The American Clean Energy and Security Act is just that sort of opportunity. This act is approximately 1200 pages and is being altered on an ongoing basis to the point where no one will have a chance to examine it thoroughly before the vote, which seems to be on a fast-track, like the Patriot Act. This is too important to pass in haste and, when/if passed, could have far-reaching effects on our nation.

19. Thanks. I do have a different take on the Sanford deal....
It all has to do with him being in leagues with Gingrich to spearhead the Clinton impeachment. That's why I believe it should not get buried like Senator Ensign's affair. Sanford is not just another philandering politician. He's another nail, an important nail, in the forehead of right wing "superiority". You understand, I'm sure.

And I can understand how frustrated you are with this veritable flurry of news that takes us away from discussing issues of life and death on a broader scale than someone's marriage or the passing of an immensely popular pop star.

I've already noticed that Sanford's saga is taking up less space and so will Jackson's death take second place very soon. Hang in there and we'll meet again in threads of greater importance.
