Jenny Sanford blew the whistle
deductive reasoning

1. probably had access to Mark's personal email- Mark probably had automatic sign in on his oomputer
2. first emails forwarded in Dec. she probably figured it out by his distance and no sex
3. kicked him out 2 weeks ago- found plane reservations in his email
4. gave"I don't know where he is answer"
5. tipped off newspaper on his flight schedule.
6. she is tough as nails

24. Filthy dirty mind
Beat me to it, too.

But to answer your question.... I don't know who the Whistle is, but I'm pretty sure "the Whistle" is not Mark Sanford.

5. The Airport Was Surely A Tip Off...
I knew someone dropped the dime on him (and he did as well) when the reporter met him at the Atlanta terminal. One could only imagine the loud "oh shit" that went through Sanford's pineapple when he saw her. But this was no lucky chance encounter...the reporter had to had been tipped to the flight (Hartsfield is the "world's busiest")...it's not like staking out the local bus station.

Her stony response...using the "My children" rather than "our" in her response was also a big red flag...reminds me of what I hear divorced people say. Then the revelation of the "separation" spoke even louder. Yes, if things got so bad that he had to move out then trouble had been brewing for a while. Affections scorned can be a powerful motivator.

Lastly, there had to be a tipping point that led to Sanford being exposed. And dare I say, I suspect there's more dirt under that rug. One isn't so publicly humilitated without having made a lot of mess. We still haven't heard from others in this story...the chum is in the water.

Cheers...

7. Yeah, she could have deflected a lot of curiosity from the get-go
if she'd just said something like, "My Father's Day present to my husband is to take care of the boys while he has a few days to himself. He called me last night, and already sounds more relaxed." I figured something was up when she struck that "Don't know, don't care" attitude.

8. I read some more on jenny
She's from Chicago and I am married to a Chicagoan. By and large no nonsense women with a great deal of confidence. Straight shooters with no minced words. My parents moved south in the early 70's from NY and they were always amazed at the amount of divorce in the south. I have always suspected a culture of philandering down here. Like in business I always say watch your back when dealing with southerners. Jenny, you should have stuck to your own kind(Northerners)

9. I also read that she was a big player on Wall St when...
they married and that's where all the money came from to finance his campaigns and pay for their oceanside home.

Just cause I read it, doesn't make it so, but sounds about right.

Broad-brush much?

:eyes:

There is more divorce here because of poverty and abuse - not necessarily because of adultery.

21. "Like in business I always say watch your back when dealing with southerners."
What an ignorant, bigoted motherfucker you must be. Yeah, please do "stick to your own kind". I've lived in the South all my life and most people I know, when dealing with business, would rather take a man's word and handshake than papers drawn up by a lawyer any day of the week...

Ignorant much?

16. First of all, I think we should leave his wife alone. She's been humiliated enough. Second, you're
wrong on #5.

A passenger on the flight down to Buenos Aires called the State newspaper and told them they'd flown out of Atlanta and that the Governor was on the plane with them.

It was a quote in the NYT from an interview with the editor of the paper.

19. My first instinct was to stake out the Atlanta airport
Why only one reporter was there, that's the question to ask of the media. CNN is right there in Atlanta and didn't have a clue. My guess is the media is lazy. (nooooooo, you don't say? :sarcasm: )

There should of been at least a dozen reporters there. But they were too busy checking twitter for their next big scoop.
