Sexy emails between Sanford & "Maria" in the State newspaper

Wow. This needs to be continually front & center - hilarious!

http://www.thestate.com/sanford/story/839350.html
-----
The woman who South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford had an affair with lives on Republica de la India in the Palermo neighborhood of Argentina.

Story: Sanford admits affair; wife Jenny responds

Sanford’s office Wednesday did not dispute the authenticity of the emails.

McClatchy special correspondent Angeles Mase visited the 14-story apartment building in Buenos Aires Wednesday where the woman lives, according to the emails, which included her address. The woman at the address answered to the name in the emails and, at first, agreed to speak to a visitor, but she declined after the visitor identified herself as a reporter.

The doorman at the building, shown a photograph of Sanford, said he did not recognize him. According to the doorman, the woman has two sons, one a teenager of driving age and the other younger. The emails refer to the woman’s two sons.

---------------------------

From Gov. Sanford,
Date: Thursday, July 10, 2008, 12:24 a.m.

“One, tomorrow leave at 5 a.m. for New York and meetings. Will think about you on its streets and wish I was going to be there later in the month when you are there. Tomorrow night back to Philadelphia for the start of the National Governor's Conference through the weekend. Back to Columbia for Tuesday and then on Wednesday, as I think I had told you, taking the family to China, Tibet, Nepal, India, Thailand and then back through Hong Kong on world wind tour. Few days home then to Bahamas for 5 days on a friend’s boat for the last break of the summer. The following weekend have been asked to spend it out in Aspen, Colorado with McCain - which has kicked up the whole VP talk all over again in the press back home ...

Two, mutual feelings .... You have a particular grace and calm that I adore. You have a level of sophistication that so fitting with your beauty. I could digress and say that you have the ability to give magnificent gentle kisses, or that I love your tan lines or that I love the curve of your hips, the erotic beauty of you holding yourself (or two magnificent parts of yourself) in the faded glow of the night’s light - but hey, that would be going into sexual details ...

Three and finally, while all the things above are all too true - at the same time we are in a hopelessly - or as you put it impossible - or how about combine and simply say hopelessly impossible situation of love. How in the world this lightening strike snuck up on us I am still not quite sure. As I have said to you before I certainly had a special feeling about you from the first time we met, but these feelings were contained and I genuinely enjoyed our special friendship and the comparing of all too many personal notes ...

Lastly I also suspect I feel a little vulnerable because this is ground I have never certainly never covered before - so if you have pearls of wisdom on how we figure all this out please let me know... In the meantime please sleep soundly knowing that despite the best efforts of my head my heart cries out for you, your voice, your body, the touch of your lips, the touch of your finger tips and an even deeper connection to your soul.”

--------------------

From Maria,
Wednesday, July 9, 2008 8:14 p.m.

“As I told you I shouldn't have done this trip but I would have felt worst if I wouldn't have come because it was too over the date, he is a very nice guy, great heart ... but unfortunately I am not in love with him ... You are my love ... something hard to believe even for myself as it's also a kind of impossible love, not only because of distance but situation. Sometimes you don't choose things, they just happen... I can't redirect my feelings and I am very happy with mine towards you.”

--------------------

From Gov. Sanford,
Tuesday, July 8, 1:42 a.m.

“Got back an hour ago to civilization and am now in Columbia after what was for me a glorious break from reality down at the farm. No phones ringing and tangible evidence of a day's labors. Though I have started every day by 6 this morning woke at 4:30, I guess since my body knew it was the last day, and I went out and ran the excavator with lights until the sun came up. To me, and I suspect no one else on earth, there is something wonderful about listening to country music playing in the cab, air conditioner running, the hum of a huge diesel engine in the back ground, the tranquillity that comes with being in a virtual wilderness of trees and marsh, the day breaking and vibrant pink coming alive in the morning clouds - and getting to build something with each scoop of dirt.”

Actually, Boss, the verb is spelled "envelop." No "e."

"World wind," however, is laughably stupid no matter how one looks at it.

where it was sent from. This will hurt them and they don't deserve it. It adds nothing to the discussion. There is heartache galore in this situation. I don't want to read a man's letters where he is pouring out his heart to a woman he loves either esp in his impossible situation. I don't want to read his wife's letters either where she probably pours out her heartache and hurt at the situation.
He just needs to retire and go away.

71. I don't think it has been proven it was sent
from work. The interview on CNN , the reporter only says he received them in his inbox and did not know where they came from. If you have ever been in love, you know that sometimes you do not think so clearly. Now that the damage is done, the rest of the country doesn't need to be voyeurs to the intimate details of the shipwreck of his relationships. If he used state money, that is fair game but we don't need love letters.

That, in and of itself, is the most interesting phrase of the entire article.

60. I'm guessing no.
Palin was announced 8/29/08. These emails were apparently obtained in December. He was never a VP pick.

So I'm guessing no.

If you read the emails, he mentions in one during the summer that he was being courted by McCain for VP. Strange they weren't released earlier

50. Below are excerpts of e-mails, obtained by The State newspaper in December,
between Gov. Mark Sanford's personal e-mail account and Maria, a woman in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Why didn't The State reveal this sooner, since they've had them for over 6 months?!?!?!?

Edited on Wed Jun-24-09 06:03 PM by LostInAnomie
Not because of the embarrassment, but because he obviously has feelings for this woman. Look at the way he speaks to her in these emails. It's not cold clinical language, it's not lecherous/pornographic, it's the way someone talks to someone they have deep feelings for. Now, I see Sanford as someone in an untenable situation, albeit a situation he put himself in.

That being said, from the way Sanford describes this woman, I REALLY want to see some pics.

73. I think a lot of women are familiar....
with this sort of semi-sophisticated male-on-the-make (remember "my wife doesn't understand me"?). His feelings are real enough, especially for her special parts and tan lines!

The fact that Sanford isn't crude or pornographic doesn't mean anything. What sort of women do you think responds to a man whose sends her crude, pornographic emails?

59. His priorities ...
During the presser, he said he "hurt her (the girlfriend), the wife and the boys. In that oder.

"... my heart cries out for you, your voice, your body, the touch of your lips, the touch of your finger tips and an even deeper connection to your soul.”

64. Could those emails have been more "Remains of the Day" in tone?

Not getting "sexy" from them by a longshot. If no one had revealed who wrote them, one could be envisioning Anthony Hopkins and Emma Thompson corresponding throughout some stifled, impossible relationship. Very tacky for whoever did it, to put them out there. Everyone's admitted to their failings.

94. Yes, because foreign people can't speak English good
Seriously, it sounds to me like someone who has a university degree and some business experience. And written English doesn't have an accent. I've known a LOT of people who acquired English as a second (or even a third) language and who speak and write English better than people who grew up here. You really can't jump to conclusions on the basis of someone's facility with the language.

83. The guy made a mistake, and their are issues regarding that.
But why do people have to make fun of him?

And why are his private emails, where he shows fondness, even if not a proper relationship, why are they being used to hurt him. They seemed to be honest expressions of love between two people.

I am curious how are they public, they seem to be items that do not effect his social job, although leaving work without telling anyone does, the emails themselves seem personal.

How is laughing or making fun of his feelings any different then what some of those people did to Clinton or other people?

I respect the guy, even though his comments might have been because he got caught, he was pretty honest and up front about it.

I have heard people making fun of his emails and it seems like going a bit far, using his feelings of love his humanity against him.

Maybe I am over sensitive to it, maybe I am being hypocritical since I have probably done the same things at times.

However, regardless of how I disagree with his political views, I feel sorrow for his suffering in a tough time, and do wish him the best for him to be able to make it through the difficulties.

92. Can't I have feelings for both.
I can disagree with what someone does without disliking them. I can even argue against, and stand against people without disliking them.

I know I am a hypocrite at times, and make mistakes, and I have found when I get mad at the person, I forget about the issue.

So I try, although I don't always succeed, to try and not like what is done and not the person.

But I think I understand your frustration.

Sanford thinks she should be forced to carry the fetus to term. Or she can risk being maimed or killed by a back alley or coat hanger abortion.

87. How did the paper get these emails?
"E-mails, obtained by The State newspaper in December, between Gov. Mark Sanford and Maria, a woman in Buenos Aires, Argentina."

From one of the two parties?
From the email or internet purveyors?
From gov't surveillance?

How?

Seems strange they're so quickly available to the public with no apparent legal problems.

90. I say it was Maria's man.
Sanford's wife I don't see doing it. She managed all of his campaigns. Worked her ass off. In a sense his success was probably alot of her doing. I don't see her tearing that down.

Maria's guy, on the other hand, doesn't have as much to lose, I'm sire. Plus, he probably didn't like reading that Maria had no love for him. Just my hunch.
