My Two Cents on the "Twitter Revolution" in Iran
By Jeremy Scahill

I’m really sick of people in the US talking about the “twitter revolution” in Iran. I especially hate when it’s US liberals who would NEVER get off their asses and away from their computers to protest anything in their own country. They’d never face down tear gas or baton-wielding thugs at home. Some of these liberals (you know who you are) were poo-pooing activists protesting at the Republican and Democratic Conventions and scorn activism in general. This whole commentary about the “twitter revolution” when it comes from these lizards is narcissistic crap.

Note: Retweeting posts from Iran is not as important as putting your own ass on the line when it matters in your own country.

P.S. F#ck Thomas “No two countries with a McDonald’s would go to war” Friedman: “Is Facebook to Iran’s Moderate Revolution what the mosque was to Iran’s Islamic Revolution? Is Twitter to Iranian moderates what muezzins were to Iranian mullahs?”

P.P.S. I would encourage people to read Sibel Edmond’s post on this topic. Sibel was fired as an FBI translator post-9-11 and is founder and president of the National Security Whistleblowers Coalition

4. That's not really relevant
He's not cursing Twitter; he's cursing the notion that Twitter is responsible for or integral to the rebellion. People putting their asses on the line is what makes this a "revolution"; Twitter is just how we are finding out about it.

Just saying, he's not criticizing Twitter; he's criticizing the hokey, Tom Friedman-like fetishization of technology and overemphasis of its role in what's happening.

5. Oh those dastardly donky and elephant hats
Protesting a US political convention full of 60 year old fat grandmas wearing funny hats and red, white and blue died hair does not equal overthrowing an insane tyrannical government. What a fool.
