Has Michael Moore Spoken Out About Healthcare Reform Recently?.......
His movie Sicko is the 'poster child' for healthcare reform. We should have special showings of it all over the country for the rank and file that hadn't seen it yet. They need to be informed. I wish Moore was leading the charge on this for us and became our spokesperson now.

I know he is on to a new movie on the 'economic/banking crisis' - but we need him and his Sicko movie now - as it is timely and people who didn't watch it when it was released may find the time to watch it now - as it seems to be the hot topic of the time.

11. i don't see how mandating it would help. the system is broken. if people could afford
it, they would have it in most cases. I've been without insurance, and it wasn't because i didn't want it. The problem with an employer based healthcare system is that if you have no employer, you have no insurance. There are so many reasons why our current system is insane. I mean, more people are having to switch jobs so much, and if you have had an illness, you may have difficulty obtaining insurance once you lose it. Not to mention the burden on the employers that other countries don't have, making it harder to compete with companies based elsewhere.

12. It makes sure everybody's in and contributing
It is also more likely people will get their preventive check-ups if they have coverage. I understand the economics of it, I just don't know why they can't switch it around to everybody being guaranteed coverage, and then tax us or charge us a premium, like they do in other countries.

14. i think mandating coverage in a system where people can't afford it is insane.
most people WOULD have it if they could. I think that providing affordable access and forcing the insurance companies to actually compete to get prices down should be the first priority. Then we can look into mandating. What i am seeing is a desire on the part of some of our 'representatives' if you want to call them that, to mandate buying into the system as it is today. this is crazy. Since apparently we can't get single payer for some reason, we need a viable true public option available to everyone. We pay into this and one would assume the costs would go down as competition should do. The cost should depend on someone's income and I do believe most would be enrolled in one or the other... public or private.

Once most are covered, I would think that costs should go down just because the hospitals would have less instances of uninsured and unable to pay coming to the ER because they waited until it was really bad. Eventually I would think that anyone not in a private plan or having not chosen something would be put in the public plan. In college we had to have insurance, and if we didn't have it, we were put on the student plan and charged accordingly. While this should be the goal, I would not do it right away. Give people a chance to opt in to it on their own. Then, like after a year or so, whoever hasn't picked something gets something picked for them. I think that giving folks the chance to do it on their own is better. Most people will want to see how this is going to work before they get in. But people with families who can't afford what's available to them now I am betting would jump at the chance of a public option.

16. Generally I agree
I would support mandates in certain states that have proven to be responsive to its citizens. My insurance is subsidized at 90%, so I also know insurance subsidies can make insurance affordable, if not economically sustainable to the taxpayer in the long run. If people are mandated, they'll start paying attention and demand the cost is affordable. See how fast we get single payer when people are required to pay 12% of their income and still pay deductibles, co-pays, 20%, meds, etc. In the meantime though, it would just add another crippling cost to our economy. But I really don't know any other way to get to there from here because we just live in a damn dumb country. It is those Senators whose people are 65% opposed to Obama who are causing the most problems.

6. Now would be a great time to have a "Sicko" party
Rent it and have a "Sicko" party at your home. If you own it allow others to borrow it.

It would be a great way to get the conversations started with people who don't necessarily pay much attention to politics.

8. What about those that can afford it
sending a copy of Sicko to their reps, as well as Sicko parties. You could even have petition forms at the parties to sign.
