The USS John McCain, a navy destroyer, will intercept the ship Kang Nam as soon as it leaves the vicinity off the coast of China, according to a senior U.S. defense official. The order to inderdict has not been given yet, but the ship is getting into position.

11. USS McCain?
I was thinking, why would they name a ship after him, but then I realized that the ships were probably named after his dad or grandfather who were admirals. In that case, the ship will most likely intercept and launch the patrol boat USS McCain III which will promptly crash.

12. Proves it's a bi-partisan effort
Amazing how they seem to know exactly what's on this ship, how N Korea will respond, and how this will play out given the reluctance to be provocative previously. Seems strange. I bet we don't get close to it. It's a bluff to irritate Kim.

13. Reason #4587 NOT to name buildings, objects, ships after people,
living or dead. If this had happened before the election, imagine the headlines!

McCain at war with aggressor!
McCain speeds to the rescue!
McCain moving in for the confrontation!

Busy week.

Sub collides with sonar array towed by U.S. Navy ship

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- In what a U.S. military official calls an "inadvertent encounter," a Chinese submarine hit an underwater sonar array being towed by the destroyer USS John McCain on Thursday.

The array was damaged, but the sub and the ship did not collide, the official said.

21. The McCain is an Arleigh Burke class destroyer, a high speed
turbine engined (108,000 horsepower) ship armed with various types of missiles and guns, plus torpedoes and ant-submarine weapons. Home port is in Japan.

It's a very good ship.t was named after the 2 Admirals, not the Captain from Panama.
