9. Higher taxes?
We probably wouldn't have to pay higher taxes if they used about one seventh of the "defense" budget to fund healthcare.

27. There is absolutely no reason that ANY new taxes would need to
be enacted to fund Universal Health Care. Premiums now paid to health insurance providers from private and employer provided accounts are MUCH MORE than adequate to finance the whole thing!

However, it would be nice to finally see the military budget cut down or at least have some sort of transparency in it's allocation. The last time that was tried, Carter was left looking like a fool paying $2500 for toilet seats. It was all a scam to hide the fact that most of the military budget pays for covert "nation building". Reagan was able to come in after that and claim how he was cutting wasteful spending and taking the Soviet "evil" empire out at the same time. And most Americans bought that load of crap. Still do.

12. That's It Exactly.

Throw in those who profit from the system; some bigotry; ingnorance; and a few similar character flaws -- and we've got the whole picture.

Great toon.

14. Incorrect cartoon.
When I hear Thom Hartmann repeat Alan Greenspan's famous quote:

"My job is to maintain a certain level of worker insecurity" ...

And I look at the Neo-feudal goals of certain right-wing think tanks...

And I look at the Business Plot of 1933...

And I look at Banana Republics of Latin America...

It's not just about higher taxes or selfishness.

Certain right-wingers want a permanent underclass. For cheap labor purposes.

Free labor, if possible.

They want to return to the glorious days of yesteryear. The days when wealth was inherited or stolen, and possibly both. Influence was purchased (only). And we ain't fur from it.

28. So true. I wonder however if people like this will feel the same way
Edited on Sat Jun-20-09 09:04 AM by Wapsie B
if they lose their job and health insurance and it's their life or the life of their children in the balance? Or if their health insurance plan refuses to pay for a procedure deemed experimental and unnecessary which results in the death of a spouse or a child? It's just so easy to live in anger.

30. They won't recognize it
It was a couple of weeks ago, some guy in Ohio was talking about how tough times were. He wanted to know where his bailout was. He'd lost his job and had to get by on unemployment benefits and food stamps.
