Why don't you Palin apologists spend your energy defending Sotomayor?
I mean, she's "mean" and "aggressive" and all sorts of things the MSM has decided must be investigated...she has "temprament" issues. PHUCK YOU. This is code because of the sexism found everywhere...they would NEVER raise these issues with a man who was nominated...he's strong, inquisitive, detailed...it's a freaking double standard and it's this sort of shit you should be working against, not some faux outrage from a publicity seeking p*ss-poor mother from Alaska.

6. They could if they could read...
...it's actually fairly straightforward...just remember the last vowel is an "o".

2. That, my friend, is an excellent suggestion.
DU seems to be madder at David Letterman than they are at the GOP mud-slinging machine.

I wonder why that is?

7. It's ok to slam Letterman, it's a dumb joke, but then move on...
...the real issue now has become the phony outrage by the publicity seeking you-know-what.

3. k&r. I've grown disgusted at how much time has been wasted
on liberal boards defending that SEXIST woman. She is more of a threat to women's civil liberties than Letterman will ever be!!!

4. k and fuckin' R!!!!
NO kidding!!!

why can't we spend some time defending Letterman from being called a god damned pedophile and rapist? As a feminist myself, I can tell you that the causal use of those terms was carelessly dangerous and insensitive. Real victims of rape and pedophilia suffer very REAL problems that should not be made light of by a desperate politician who wants us to stop paying attention to her plagiarism, her fan club of KKK murderers (Von Braun), and her Dis-Invited and Re-invite if she doesn't talk to the GOP fundraiser. Oh, and her sell out to Exxon.

But yeah, lecture us about how we need to defend this patriarchal Barbie sell out LIAR.

12. I can't believe anyone thinks Palin is truly offended by this...
...she's delighting in the attention and anyone who says otherwise is a troll/lurker. And you're right, serious issues should not be treated so casually and callously.

5. Web forums
Despite the fact that the majority of Americans voted Democrat (and have done so for several years, now), web forums are dominated by Republicans. I've grown tired of Dem/lib apathy and passivity on web forums and that is why I do far less posting on those forums as I used to.

14. Let me offer you a deal
Edited on Tue Jun-16-09 10:52 AM by Apollo11
First, being critical of sexism in the mass media, and disapproving of cheap attempts at humor that target the family members of political candidates and elected officials (of either party), does not make me a Palin apologist.

Calling your fellow DU members "Palin apologists" is disrespectful and discourteous (ask your mom).

Second, the whole point of this here Forum is for us to post our opinions and then for other people to come along and say if they agree or disagree. It is pure entertainment and is not going to change the world either way.

Third, if you want to start a thread defending Sotomayor, go right ahead. If I agree with what you post, I can signal my agreement by recommending it. That's how this works.

Whining about why other posters are not addressing topic X is totally pointless.

But then you knew that already - right?

So - do we have a deal or what? :eyes:

16. Nope, because while i believed the joke was stupid, and I could see
how someone might be offended, it is clear that this is being dragged out for personal political gain. What was this joke made, over a week ago? And you're still harping on it? Yeah, that's an apologist who can't see which way the wind is blowing.

17. I've been wondering about the same thing for the last few days
Good Lord, we all know Sotomayor has been called a racist by rightwingers and she'll need all the support she can get.

Let's put our ourtrage and support where it's actually needed & where it promotes our goals. That's a task we can't ever waver on, ever again.

Oh, and thanks for starting this thread!

21. And you know, if jokes and comedy are the issue
There are mountains and hours of really sexist entertainments to take to task. If the objective was to point out sexism in comedy, there are millions of better examples, meaner, more sexualized examples, entire careers and programs made of such garbage that could have been addressed.
So even if sexism in entertainment was the issue they wanted to highlight, Dave is a lousy example of that, and the Palins are just as lousy an example of those harmed by the actual violence based jokes that are told against women each day.
Also Leno told the same joke about Bristol and John Edwards, months ago. No one said a word.

defines one as a Palin apologist because Miss Moose Hunter's motives are painfully transparent.

27. I try hard not to question motive
but I sometimes wonder why people keep starting threads about Sarah Palin. In no way am I singling you out but when I look at GD and GDP and see all the threads about her, it reminds me of what took place at the Kerry forum back in 2004. The main forum was often filled with threads about rinky dink stuff and there was some debate as to if the starters of such truly thought that what they wrote was important or if they were subversives attempting to make the Kerry forum look like it was populated by avid National Enquirer readers.

28. Motives are difficult to prove in a court of law...
...in this case, not so difficult. But you're right...the issue should be over, but with the right-wing trying to make political hay of this is what sickens me most.
