Iran Cancels Foreign Media Accreditation
Source: Reuters

TEHRAN, June 16 (Reuters) - Iran on Tuesday banned foreign media journalists from leaving their offices to cover protests on the streets of Tehran following the country's disputed presidential elections.

The Culture Ministry said journalists could continue to work from their offices but that it was cancelling press accreditation for all foreign media.

"No journalist has permission to report or film or take pictures in the city," a Culture Ministry official told Reuters.

The announcement came after three days of streets protests against Iran's election results, during which at least seven people were reported to have been killed.

1. This Is How Martial Law Operates...
I find this extremely ironic. Flashback to 1979...for those of us who remember it...the Iranian revolutionaries glammed onto American camera crews covering the unrest to create a worldwide image of widespread hate and opposition to the Shah. The truth was that these demonstrations were staged...hundreds of "angry" protestors would congregate around the US embassy or other western symbol...a block away, not a soul to be seen. It was Gil Scott-Heron's "The Revolution Will Be Televised" in real time.

Now it's those same cameras that helped the mullahs gain power that they fear. As a student of history, most revolutions never have one ending but several...we may be witnessing such a phase in Iran's long history.

5. Nope
the difference here is that is that Ahmadinejad's supporters are, broadly speaking , the working class and Mousavi's the middle class and the students. So - there are quite distinct divisions. In Ceaucescu's case it was the whole population as was the case 1979 in Iran.
