that was when they partied due to finally being free of interference from the USA, which ran all the way back to 1953 when their democratically elected government was overthrown, and they were also finally able to say goodbye to SAVAK. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SAVAK

Anything current pales into insignificance compared to that.

2. they don't want the US backed Shah which the Ayatollah aws able to exploit

and people turned to him.

but they didn't really want what the Islamic Clerics put in place either. and now they are standing up against them.

also they like and trust Obama.

This time (if they succeed), I think they won't make the mistake of replacing one tyranny for another.
