Is it time for a "parallel presidency"?
With the Executive Branch becoming more powerful and the Bush Administration feeling as though it represents the people who voted for it and it's donors, then it might be time for a sort of parallel presidency. More in name only than anything else.

Nancy Pelosi is the perfect candidate for this. She listens to the People and is third in line to the Presidency.

What will be the tasks of this parallel presidency:
Diplomacy
Denial of the things the Bush Administration wants
Bringing accountability to the Executive Branch
Bringing the Executive Branch back down to the levels of power it's supposed to have

We have to work hard to give Pelosi the bully pulpit, make sure that she is heard as that is one distinct advantage the President has over the Speaker of the House, but with the Internet and other forms of media, it may be possible to allow the Speaker of the House to be heard as clearly and as loudly as the Administration.

1. The comparison phenomenon
Merely by being there and doing her job with a leadership charisma and agenda that makes her more presidential and popular than the two schleps she poses with and overshadows is THE incredible plus so far. I can't think of any speaker of the House, even the pretentious self loving Gingrich who became automatically more popular and looked up to than the executive branch- in this particular way.

They tried hard and fast to destroy or mitigate the possibility of this happening even before the elections. But they have concentrated too much on Hillary and have been side-armed with a roundhouse KO. The MSM can't help but make this happen unless they edit her out of every film or photo and keep up the one-sided critiques fed to them by the WH. Most of that is backfiring badly and she is too influential to ignore. All the better. Denying her star status, that fake glamor setting up for a fall, puts her genuine gifts in stark relief to the petty chatter and whining and sulking that preens with no credibility as THE leadership of the nation.

As for working hard to give her the bully pulpit, I think she has just moved into it. What we have is like a reaction of people frantically waving their arms, making noises, crying in alarm trying to distract the nation from the simple fact of...AUTHENTICITY. By being there and doing her job and having such gifts and a yearned for agenda and exposing these frauds in media and the executive, she is making more a powerful effect than any words or argument alone ever could. And what they also desperately hope you won't notice is that for all purposes of leadership and proper responsive action she is more the president than a whole hedgerow of Bushes and gangs of Cheneys.

2. Really good post PATRICK.
You even got the "whole hedgerow" item in. The spook in the shrubs. Speakers of the House do have rights too. bush forgot or signed away others' rights in government.
