AIG Said to Remove Logo From Employee Badges, Cards on Harassment Concern
AIG Said to Remove Logo From Employee Badges, Cards (Update1)
By Hugh Son

June 11 (Bloomberg) -- American International Group Inc., the insurer bailed out by the U.S., has removed its logo from employee badges and corporate charge cards after some workers were harassed, said two people familiar with the situation.

New identification tags and cards were issued last month to New York employees, according to the people, who declined to be identified because AIG hasn’t made an announcement. The company told staff in March to conceal their badges and avoid mentioning the insurer in public, according to an internal memo. Mark Herr, a spokesman for New York-based AIG, declined to comment.

“If they’re looking to minimize exposure and risk to their employees, to me it’s a wise move,” Joseph LaSorsa, who runs a security firm in Florida, said in an interview. LaSorsa’s firm provides bodyguards and event security.

Chief Executive Officer Edward Liddy told Congress in March that employees got death threats after news that staff in the unit blamed for AIG’s near-collapse got $165 million in bonuses that month. Lawmakers stoked the anger, including Senator Charles Grassley, an Iowa Republican, who said that the executives should “resign or go commit suicide.” Grassley later said what he wants from the managers is “contrition.” ..........(more)

2. The article is true.
AIG employees in NYC got new badges and others elsewhere got stickers to put over the AIG logo on their badges. They still haven't decided whether AIU Holdings will be their final name, so it made no sense to waste money issuing new badges to thousands of people.

Employees were threatened and harassed and it's not right. AIG had worldwide 161,000 employees, but only a handful of people were involved in the derivatives mess. It is not fair to go after all employees, most of whom never even got a Christmas bonus from AIG.

:-(

5. Thank you!!
I just happen to know AIG pretty well and I think that the employees were tarnished unfairly by the WH, Congress and the media.

:hi:

8. I agree too
The poor blokes laboring in the property casualty sectors of the company, in particular, get my sympathy on this. They have erroneously been targeted for things with which they had no connection or impact on whatsoever.
