in my town. There has got to be hundreds of such people here.
The "War is not the answer" type bumper stickers were obviously there before the Obama stickers.
This should tell you what kind of person in my area voted for Obama.
I find that sad.

edit for dense people: It is sad because many of these people are peace activists, such as myself.
We are not seeing an end to US wars.

1. Yes, I also find it sad that liberals supported the more liberal candidate. nt

3. My favorite was was a truck that had "Impeach Obama", "McCain/Palin: A better Change"...
....and about 5 other anti-Obama stickers placed prominently on the truck and one sticker proclaiming his/her/it membership in a union.

It was a facepalm moment.

6. Yes. Obama was the most liberal candidate of all who polled above 10% in any poll at any point.
Edited on Wed Jun-10-09 04:48 PM by Occam Bandage
He was not the most liberal candidate period, but I can understand not supporting a fringe candidate in a first-past-the-post system like the one we have in America.

(A case could be made for John Edwards, but given his voting record in the Senate, and given his campaign platforms in 2004, it's not a very good one.)

9. *Sigh*
What is wrong with you people? Let me guess you want our president to solve every single fucking problem right now.

Sorry... but in the real world it takes time. Give Obama a fucking break people. He hasn't been in office long and considering all that he has on his plate right now I am not going to complain. Besides what are you guys doing to help him keep his campaign promises? Please, I want to know. Obama, in case you all have forgotten, told all us that we are going to stand up and do our part to make this country better.

This is a team effort not just one man's crusade. If you want things to get better then get up off your impatient ass and do something. There is no excuse for all whining impatience I keep hearing from people. Obama said he wouldn't be a perfect president and that he would do his best. As far as I am concerned he has been doing his best considering the assholes he has to work with day after day. So please take the time and listen to yourselves. NO REALLY! LISTEN! Be happy Obama is president because if McCain and Palin had won well...

Trust me when I say that we would all be in much worst shape then we are now. So stop crying and do your part like I am going to do mine by helping make clean energy a reality now and not later.

Change is only change we can believe in if only we TRULY DO BELIEVE! We have to strive to change things for the better. Obama can't do everything alone. He needs our help and if we don't help him then we are all to blame if he fails. I say this because it is true. Whether any of you will admit it or not makes no difference.

Truth is truth and if you want challenge the powers that be then it is past time to speak truth to those powers. We the people of the United States of America have the power to change this nation. All we need to do is take a stand and believe in the change WE can make.

Or as an old saying goes... Together we stand, divided we will fall. So let us stand up TOGETHER!

10. Bullshit! HE PROMISED FUCKING CHANGE AND WE ARE NOT SEEING IT!
There was no mention of "striving to change" in his campaign. I lose a little hope every day.

12. Obviously...
You don't understand so allow me to spell it out for you...

You want change well you have to fight and struggle to change things. Yes, he promised change but what you don't seem to understand or realize is that change takes time.

AND YES WE HAVE TO BE PART OF THAT CHANGE, XENOTIME! This is not only Obama's fight, THIS IS OUR FIGHT! We are all part of this. This is a battle and we can only win if we do what we know in our heart of hearts needs to be done. Otherwise, why the hell did you bother to vote for Obama? Save me the bullshit 'He promised change' complaint. He IS doing his best and that is more then I can say for some us, his so-called supporters. Do yourself a favor and think about what you have done to help change this country for the better lately.

Do you understand?

A MESSAGE OR SLOGAN ONLY HAS POWER IF THOSE WHO BELIEVE IN IT TRULY UNDERSTAND WHAT THE MESSAGE TRULY MEANS AND TAKE A STAND AND MAKE A DIFFERENCE! WE HAVE TO 'CHANGE' OURSELVES, XENOTIME! This isn't about just Obama's message this is about us and our future. This is about our hopes and our dreams. The change you want will not easily be achieved. We have to do more to make things change. So that is why I said we have to stive for change because this is a struggle.

A struggle that can only be won if we stand up together and fight. It won't be easy but then again making the world a better place is worthy effort. Damn it. If you don't understand what I am trying to say then perhaps you never did understand the true spirit of Obama's message.

'CHANGE WE CAN BELIEVE IN' is not about the man himself... it is about us. All of US! It has always been about us... WE THE PEOPLE! This is our country... not the property of the assholes who have done nothing over the years but to steal our hopes and dreams away. You say you want things change well then take a stand and make a change.

Each of us have the power to change things in this country... this world. All we need to do is have the courage to stand up and do our part...

11. did you miss the part about being an activist?
Edited on Wed Jun-10-09 05:32 PM by G_j
my impatient ass was protesting the day the Afghan war started, was getting numb on multiple bus rides to DC, was organizing and speaking at local protests.
It was personally visiting my local Congressman's office.
( & involved in peace-work since the Vietnam war)
So, save it....

13. Well excuse me,
G_j, the way you worded your topic sounded like a complaint. And if there is one thing that annoys me is the fact that so many people who supported Obama during his run for president are now complaining he isn't doing what he promised. It just seems like we are too damn impatient and unwilling to do our part and help make things better.

As for the activist issue about the war I am happy you did your part and continue to do your part. That is more then some people I know who just complain about everything being so damn bad but refuse to get up off their lazy asses and do something.

So, I am sorry if my comment came off rather nasty but it was meant to be a reality check for others on this forum who have lost sight of what we all were fighting for.

14. certainly
The people I am speaking of, are much like me. I cannot speak for the people in all those cars I see each day.
But I know my community has had been active for a long time. Somehow, people don't get peace workers, or it seems even the reality of the possibility of real peace in this world. If you know Quakers or others who commit their lives towards ending war and violence, then you would know it is SAD.

And there is no earthly reason, anyone should be waiting to hold war criminals accountable.

Of course he never promised us (the real left) a rose-garden, but to not acknowledge that sadness, is to deny our humanity.
I sure wish MLK Jr was alive today.
