CBS News taking Sotomayor out of context in fuax controversy over "wise latina woman.
Of course, they left off the entire quote in context.

The entire quote goes on to state how the most important civil rights decisions for minorities were reached by all-white Justices who used empathy to transcend their own, personal experiences, as she aspires to do for herself.

CBS can go fuck themselves.

1. It's not just CBS
It's the entire corporate media.

2. What happened to the "liberal media" we're supposed to have?
Edited on Sat Jun-06-09 07:33 AM by Ian David
Oh, yeah.

It's Saturday.

Ed, Keith, Rachel, Jon and Stephen won't be on until Monday night. I don't get HBO to watch Bill Maher.

And THAT is the FULL extent of our "Liberal Media" on television.

I think maybe Progressives need to appropriate Rush Limbaugh's phrase "drive-by media" for ourselves to describe what the media REALLY is- a bunch of drive-by assassins doing contract hits for their rich,, white, chrisTian conservative masters.

3. Sound Bite Gotcha...
The right wing has had Sotomeyer on their radar since she went up for the Appeals court. That's what made this move by President Obama so interesting. It's like a fastball pitcher...you know it's coming, he throws it and you swing, just you never can catch up to it.

The corporate media needs a controversy...that's what draws eyeballs which means money. They're salivating over a bitter SCOTUS fight...another Clarence Thomas would do wonders for their depressed balance sheets. A smooth confirmation is their worst nightmare, thus if there's no controversy, they'll gladly create one...and the rushpublicans are more than happy to help.

Ya notice that the people who are most offended by this distorted remark are white middle aged males? But then guess who calls the shots in the provincial world of the corporate media...

4. It's crap like this from the corporate media
that's dividing America.

Because of this I will inevitably spend some time over the summer "correcting" my right-leaning relatives who've been deceived into believing that she was talking about her decisions being better overall, and not just in "race and gender discrimination cases", because of her background.

How corrosive is it to America to have families arguing over these faux controversies?
