Letter Writing Campaign for Health Care Reform

It is time to live up to the election slogan: Yes WE Can.

Today I was inspired to act after listening to Ed Schultz and Tom Hartman to act to help Obama to push the most effective health care legislation possible. Schultz said that Obama has less than a month before the health care issue goes before the lawmakers. Big pharma and the insurance companies have the lawmakers in their grip. Obama will not be successful in bypassing the inevitable fillibuster by the Cons--combined with the DINOs--so WE must GET INVOLVED. Schultz said if there is one thing that he knows about Obama, it is that he will act with OUR support. I believe that.

Tom Hartman is brilliant and he used an analogy about activism that I want to share. He said that email is hardly noticed by lawmakers for many reasons--emails can be duplicated, they don't always come from those who are direct constituents, they are "cheap" there is no effort spent to flood an email inbox...etc. etc. etc. On the other hand he said that a phone call is about 100 times more powerful than email; that a hand written letter is ten times more powerful than a call; and that actual protests on Capitol Hill are a significant influence.

Since I cannot afford to travel to DC at this time and I know that many here can't either in the midst of the Greater Depression that we are living through, I think that writing letters is one of the best ways that we can all influence our representatives.

I shared this idea with a coworker and he and I are going to spread form letters to our coworkers together and provide the names and addresses of our representatives so that as many people as possible will also send letters. At the beauty shop tonight I also shared the same sentiment--that we need to help Obama and write letters. People will do this--if we spread the word.

I haven't put a letter together yet.

The letters can be different. The main points are that we as Americans deserve to have affordable health care just like all of the other developed countries of the world. We support President Obama's public option for health care that will allow citizens to either participate in established insurers' healthcare plans or to choose their own healthcare providers.
