NJ DUers
with all the crap that happened in California this last week with the gay community, I think that it's very important to support the community (whether you are gay or not) in this time of need.

Asbury Park, NJ is having a gay pride weekend next weekend with a bike ride, parade, etc. One of the local groups that I'm involved in is in the parade, and I hope to join them.

If anyone wants to come for a weekend at the boardwalk to support the gay community, this would be a great opportunity. I will cross post this in the NJ forum

1. Garden State Equality will have a table at Pride.
I don't know which shift I have yet, but come by and say "hi". I will definitely be there at some point.

And thank you for all you have done for this fight in NJ. You're one of the few Jersey people on DU that even pays attention to making equality a reality in our state.

2. I will, keep me posted
I don't know my exact plans eitehr, or if I will be able to stick around all day (I might have to go to my cousin's birthday in PA if she's holding it then).

Thanks for the thanks on the fight. I try, but in this part of NJ sometimes I feel like I am fighting a losing battle. At our local Memorial Day parade, these 2 guys near me were making bigoted comments about Rachel Maddow. I would have punched them if my 7 yo cousin was not with me.

I see gay rights as my generation's civil rights. I'm as straight as an arrow, but I am outraged at the way gays are treated in society, mostly in the name of religion. Especially since gay marriage does not affect straight marriage whatsoever. My dad's against gay marriage, and I asked him "if Joe and Bob live down the street and are married, how does that affect you?"
