Sewage Leaks blamed on Krispy Kreme
(05-29) 06:30 PDT Fairfax, Va. (AP) --

Officials in northern Virginia are blaming Krispy Kreme doughnuts for clogging more than just arteries.

Fairfax County says the company has damaged its sewer system by dumping yeast and grease from a plant in Lorton. Officials filed a lawsuit this month after the company refused to pay a $1.9 million bill for repairs to the system.

Krispy Kreme says the charges are unfounded.

The lawsuit says the damage was caused by "excessive quantities of highly corrosive wastes, doughnut grease and other pollutants." The suit says clogged pipes resulted in raw sewage leaks that shut down the southern Fairfax sewer system.

The county that borders Washington, D.C., says its workers once ran a closed-circuit camera inside a pipe to show the grease deposits, but the camera got stuck in the goop.

5. But is it illegal?
If it's not illegal, then there's really not much to talk about other than changing the dumping laws.

6. I never understood the mass appeal of their lame product
It's sorta like Long John Silvers, in that no matter what the supposed difference, it all tastes and smells the same. People went fuckin' ga-ga over it though.

7. Jelly-filled donuts too full, say investigators
"Someone should have stopped them," said one investigator. "I mean, these donuts were dangerously overfilled."

8. What, Virginia doesn't have laws mandating grease traps and proper disposal?
If there were any grease, in any sort of quantity, and it was a KK in my neck of the woods, they would be busted hard and fined heavily, along with being made to pay for the clean up and repair of the sewage lines. Every business around here has access to a grease disposal box and is mandated to use it.

Throw a big hefty fine at KK and mandate that they revamp and rebuild their system so that it's in compliance.

9. At first, I thought this article was going to be about Alli users
I've heard that some of them blame their "sewage leaks" on Krispy Kremes.
