Freeper "Counter-Protest" in Washington
The AP lists their numbers as "about 40." :-)

Tens of thousands in D.C. protest war

About 40 people staged a counter-protest, including military family members and Army Cpl. Joshua Sparling, 25, who lost his leg to a bomb in Iraq in November 2005.

Since I can't find any photos of the current counter-protest, I offer this:

Great Moments In Former Freeper Counter-Protests

1. Thanks.
I just ventured over there (shudder) to see if they had posted any pitctures.

What I never understand is their delusions over the disparity in numbers. They can disagree with our politics, but doesn't it sink when comparing numbers?

3. I'm surprised the corporate didn't spin this as the country still split ....
you know 40,000 against the war, 40 for it = equally divided protest to the media shills

4. Well duh...
Using freeper logic, 1 anti-war protest = 1 pro-war protest. See? 1 = 1, no matter how us evil libruls try to spin it.

9. I'm looking for one! In the meantime, here's the Washington Post...
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/01/27/AR2007012700629_2.html

Across the street, however, was a counter-protest, staged by the Washington chapter of the conservative organization FreeRepublic.com. Those protesters, who organizers said feared that the antiwar march would hurt the U.S. anti-terror efforts, yelled and sported signs, such as one that read, "Go to hell traitors. You dishonor our dead on hallowed ground."

I was at that protest with a bunch of DUers like matcom and LynneSin. We went back to my hotel room and watched the C-SPAN coverage of the Freeps. There were like 20 of them, maybe. All of a sudden, all these white-robed, turbaned Ay-rabs marched up to join the Freeps (they were Iraqis affiliated with Chalabi and the INC), and the Freeps ran like rabbits. It scared the piss out of them, even after they figured out the Ay-rabs were on their side. There were maybe three Freeps left when the main Iraqi guy spoke.

We were in hysterics watching this in that hotel. A magical moment. :)

17. I'll never forget it either, Will.
Here's an interesting update on the counter-protest from the AP. They're over at the Navy Memorial... that's, like, nowhere near the march!

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070127/ap_on_re_us/iraq_protest_vignettes_3

About 40 counterprotesters lofted "Support our troops" signs in front of the Navy Memorial, a few blocks from the main demonstration. Among the participants were soldiers being treated at Walter Reed Army Medical Center.

Army Cpl. Joshua Sparling, who lost his leg to a roadside bomb in November 2005 in Ramadi, said the anti-war protesters, especially those who are veterans or who are currently on active duty, "need to remember the sacrifice we have made and what our fallen comrades would say if they are alive." Sparling, 25, is based at Fort Bragg, N.C.

The counterdemonstration vilified Fonda's appearance at the rally. They set up a fake Fonda doll hanging from a noose and taped a sign to it that read "Jane Fonda American Traitor."

...if they were alive, which they are not, thanks to Bushco.

23. Will... I was thinking of this today... which protest was it?
I remember you live-blogging one of the protests you were at.

Some Freepers approached you and your friends, screaming at all of you to "GET A JOB!!"

You and your group looked at each other, and then simultaneously yelled back at them, "IT'S SATURDAY!!"

That always makes me laugh. :-)

19. I am 100% supportive of their right to counter-protest
But clearly their numbers are very small. There will always be a handful of people who just can't let go of their stance and refuse to acknowledge that this war is illegal, immoral, and tragically mis-managed. Time to get out.
