Facebook is a wonderful tool for connecting with old friends who have become assholes.
Yesterday, I posted a link to the Mancow torture fiasco (http://www.nbcchicago.com/news/local/Mancow-Takes-on-Waterboarding-and-Loses.html) with the caption "Who's next? Rush? Hannity? Step right up!" Shortly thereafter, I got this response from an old high school friend who I haven't spoken to in about 26 years:

If a known terrorists would not give up information that he has that threatens my wife and kids (or thousands of others) I would run for the hose!

Thousands of people died at the hands of terrorists. (You may want to Google "September 11" to help you remember!)
The terrorists that were waterboarded were able to walk away from it. That is more than Daniel Pearl can do!
Why don't you post the video of the last few minutes of Daniel's life?... Read More

How many people against waterbording would change their tune if the situation hit closer to home? Would they not want every effort to be taken to protect their family?

I wonder…

In other words, typical Rushbot crap. Here was my response:

First off, I believe that torture is immoral. I don't subscribe to the "two wrongs make a right" scenario. And yes, I know what 9/11 is without googling it and I have a wife and children who I guarantee I love just as much as you love yours. Still, I wouldn't want anyone tortured for their, or my, sake.

And the most important reason is that torture doesn't work. Sure, it gets information out of the subject, and it's almost always the information that the torturer wants to hear, but it is completely unreliable. If Mancow, who felt exactly the way about torture as you do, was crying like a baby after just 6 seconds, then it wouldn't take much longer for HIM to confess to the murder of Daniel Pearl or of a to a plot to murder your or my family. Our own justice system is littered with people, later exonerated through DNA evidence, who confesses to crimes they did not commit after enduring intense interrogation techniques that were about 1/10th as bad as what Bush allowed.

So you have information, immorally obtained, that is also next to useless. How does that help anyone?

I thought it was a pretty good response, and I was anxious to see his reaction. Well, here it was:

LOL! I love tweaking people to get there viseral responses. It's one of my prime joys in life.

Dance my little puppets, dance!!!

I don't know about you, but I am sick of intellectually dishonest douchebags who can't even pretend to defend their own positions. They're cowards, and I'm done with them.

1. Why is it that none of them can spell?
Do they make them take a spelling test before they can become a wingnut and if they flunk they're in?

31. They don't read.
Hence, they don't know what words LOOK like.

Anyone can make a typo, but some of their twisted spellings reveal that language for them is 90% oral.

33. You're right.
I have a friend who is the most intelligent person I know, a writer, a true liberal, and he often mispronounces words because he uses words he knows and can define but hasn't heard in conversation. And the opposite holds true, which is why George Bush made so many errors in speech. He was parroting words he had heard in conversation but never seen on the page because he was not a reader, so he'd mangle them.

I'm gonna go out and buy all the baddest weapons I can find and start practicing how to use them with deadly accuracy.

That is the only way I will be able to protect my family from these vicious assholes that think torture is ok, because it is evident they will torture me and mine at the first opportunity. Fucking zombies!

9. I have got one of those types too.
I am coming to the conclusion, that that is my Facebook page, and while I do enjoy honest debate -- Douchnozzle responses will get thee De-Faced. I prefer a three strike rule, so he is on 2. I have reminded people that if they thought for one minute that I somehow became conservative in the years since high school, they are still deluded.

Seriously, if they believe the crap they spew, let them clutter up there own page. My philosophy is -- don't come into my house and take a dump on MY rug. You want to talk, let's talk, other wise please go away.

De-Face is a useful tool.

15. People would be surprised with me...
I used to lean more towards Republican in high school, but now am a lot more liberal. I haven't had too many problems on Facebook because I'm from an area that's dark blue and a lot of the people I went to school with were and still are liberal in their views.

I fail to understand why people who can read my profile (which says, by the way, "flaming liberal",) would friend me in the first place. Really. We have nothing in common. Why bother? :woohoo:

13. At some point, "I was just looking for a little attention" became a boast
rather than an embarrassed admission. What you've got here is someone who is at a loss for an answer and is trying to pathetically retrieve a little dignity.

Most of the time I ignore trolls like this, but every now and then, when I'm feeling a bit sadistic, I reel one in. When it gets to point where they're cutting and pasting the same response over and over again about how much they're "enjoying" the discussion, I relent and let them go -- after oh, about six reiterations.

It's evil of me, I know, but I love it when they beg.

"I love tweaking people to get there viseral responses. It's one of my prime joys in life."

That alone shows you what a sad life he has and what kind of human being he is.

It's also clear that he can't handle it when his points are challenged. Too bad he is too stupid to realize that his attempts to distract are just ridiculous. He simply didn't know how to counter it :(. I mean, he thought he would be clever but all I see is a white flag.

18. I think too many people use Facebook to espouse political beliefs
At a minimum, other people have to watch two or more people go at it on a site that already invites the clashing of
childhood and adult worlds. I have found that making Facebook a "no politics" zone, an un-friending people who persist
in raising my ire, works pretty well.

is now looking to hook up with others who believe in Glen Beck's "We Surround Them" campaign. After looking up the "principals" Beck lists to live by - I'm wondering who is this man I used to know? ttp://www.glennbeck.com/content/articles/article/198/21018/

Back then he displayed NONE of these so-called "Principals" Including the one about breaking the law.

Too bad Beck wasn't around back then - I could have saved myself much heartache and tears.

27. That's the main reason I don't Facebook or Myspace or whatever
Not even to accept invites from some of my friends to join their communities.

That having been said, it never ceases to amaze me how these jerkoffs can claim waterboarding isn't torture. I suppose using their logic, it would be OK for their spouse or kids (or themselves) to be subjected to it because it can't be all that bad.

And even if it is, there's no problem with using it on people who are SUSPECTS (i.e. haven't even been charged with a crime). They don't even stop to think that any one of us could potentially become a suspect in some crime or another.

Really...there's no point in arguing with idiots. I don't even waste my time on them anymore.

for lots of people, and I'm sure they enjoy it and it enhances their lives.

The people I want to hear from know how to reach me. After publishing my first book using my real name, I discovered how many hopeless and worthless whackos out there wanted my attention and it was such a shocking and disturbing experience, I took a pseudonym which has worked very well.

If I have any curiosity about anyone from the past, I know how to go looking for them. That works for me ....................

Would you like to fuck up his life by making him into Dr. Mengele?

I don't think so.

We are forcing our troops into doing these horrible acts and ruining their lives as well as the torture victims lives'.

That's what I'm here for...say my peace, pitch my bitch & move along.

Facebook is for friends and family. I've seen plenty of political comments on there, but I refuse to respond to them...even the most insipid. I have trust that those who see my "feed" or see that crap on my wall will consider the source.

If anything I've been surprised at how many friends I disconnected with decades ago and have caught up with now share the same political views I do.
