I`m not one of the DUers who approves the concealment of torture photos the ACLU wants Americans to see. I don`t think hiding the photos will keep our soldiers any safer and I`m against helping to conceal war crimes. All those responsible for the United States Torture Program should be charged with a crime and Americans should be shown the truth of what was done in our names.
This isn`t about liberal vs. conservative or torture works vs. torture doesn`t work. It`s about whether or not Americans are willing to look the other way, knowing full well that people in our government committed war crimes. Instead of facing the deviance in hanging naked men from their ankles attached to "black site" ceiling chains, many Americans cheered on this barbarism. I`m not surprised. They`re probably the same Americans who still think this was a Holy War and since we won we can do what we want in Iraq and Afghanistan.
"War on Terror" doesn`t make any more sense than a War on Jealousy or a War on Lying. September 11th was a horrible day but the truth is...our government can not guarantee our safety because they don`t know what they don`t know. And all the freedom we so willingly gave up? Another terrible price to pay.
All that said, I`ve come to the conclusion that we owe the truth to our soldiers, the people we tortured, the families of those we killed and to history books that our children and grandchildren will read. This is not about terrorists or what kind of confession we can get when we slice their penises with a razor. It`s about us and what we stand for. It`s about whether or not we`re willing to help conceal depravity in order to save what`s left of our face.
