The right wing noise machine talks a lot about "socialized medicine", which some define as a public medical system run or owned by the government for the benefit of the people.

But is such a system on the horizon?

Currently, industry lobbyists are huddled in backrooms, designing a system in which Big Insurance would consolidate their control of the healthcare system by means of a government enforced monopoly. They are doing their best to eliminate all public options. Industry forces have even managed to get the White House to hire an "adviser" who wants to (not only eliminate all public options, but actually) privatize Medicare.

Such a perverse system clearly does not meet the criteria of "Socialized Medicine".

Might there not be a more descriptive term for such a malignant, undemocratic system - - a system that would use government as an enforcer of private monopoly power?

"Fascism should rightly be called Corporatism, as it is the merger of corporate and government power."

- - Benito Mussolini

"The central economic idea of all forms of fascism is corporatism. Corporatism is government control of the economy by cartelizing it, that is, by selecting favored firms in an industry. These favoured firms fix prices and create barriers to entry and obstacles for competitors, and by controlling which firms have corporate rights. The government thereby maintains a level of power over the economy."

Any suggestions?
