Eagle mascot gets new name!!!

The votes are in. The new name of the UW-L Eagle mascot is Colbert. Colbert received 1,408 of the 3,161 votes cast. Here are the vote results:

A few months ago "Eddie" was the official name decided upon for UW-La Crosse's nameless eagle mascot. Unfortunately, the National Rifle Association has recently let UW-L know that Eddie is a name that cannot be used.
The NRA has an eagle mascot named Eddie that teaches children not to play with guns, and naming UW-L's mascot Eddie would be a copyright infringement on the name "Eddie the Eagle." It is a mystery as to why the NRA is suddenly cutting down on other eagle mascots being named Eddie, as several "Eddie the Eagle" mascots already exist around the globe.
The University is trying to find a loophole in the NRA's copyright law, but they aren't having much luck. According to Melissa Klotz, Student Senate Athletic Committee Chair, "It was questioned whether (the spelling) "Eddy" could be used, but that also has a copyright on it."
Now, with no choice but to eighty-six the name Eddie, the committee is unsure of how they will name UW-L's once again nameless eagle mascot-either the second place name will be enacted or a new Name the Eagle Contest will be held.
The original top six names, as voted on by students in a referendum last semester, may need to be revisited:

• Eddie
• Edgar
• Ernie
• Screech
• Talon
