Gingrich: Pelosi could be ousted as House speaker if she lied
Edited on Sun May-17-09 08:53 AM by Mr. Ected
Dammit, Dems: Time to get off your asses, get in front of the cameras, and stop allowing the Repigs to frame this debate!!

Newt Gingrich continued his attacks on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi Saturday, saying she "defamed everyone" in the intelligence community and he can't "see how she can serve as speaker if it turns out that she has lied about national security both to the House and to the rest of the country.”

"I would expect at that point a motion of censure, and I think under the rules of the House, you can't serve for the rest of that term if you've been censured," Gingrich, a former Republican speaker of the House, said in an interview with CNN.

Pelosi has been under fire from critics who say she was fully briefed on the controversial waterboarding technique — now deemed torture by the Obama administration — in 2002 and 2003. On Thursday, the California Democrat accused CIA officials of misleading her, reiterating a claim that she was briefed on such techniques only once — in September 2002 — and that she was told at the time the techniques were not being used.

Pelosi said the briefing she received from the CIA was incomplete and inaccurate, and she called on the CIA to release a full transcript of the briefing.

The dispute over intelligence prompted CIA Director Leon Panetta to stand up for the agency Friday in a letter to CIA employees and challenge Pelosi on her assertion that the CIA had misled her.

"There is a long tradition in Washington of making political hay out of our business. It predates my service with this great institution, and it will be around long after I'm gone. But the political debates about interrogation reached a new decibel level yesterday when the CIA was accused of misleading Congress," Panetta said in a letter to employees.

2. It Panetta really wanted to "challenge" Pelosi's public statments
Edited on Sun May-17-09 08:53 AM by rocktivity
he would have done so in a public statement of his own, not in a "leaked" internal memo.

And coming from Gingrich, this is a very bad joke.

:boring:

6. I wonder what Pelosi's going to do?
Call for a full investigation? Start a review of the National Security Act? Agitate for a Truth Commission?

She'd better do SOMETHING. She's got the power. She needs to use it NOW.

7. Won't break my heart if Pelosi gets the boot.
She helped Henry Paulson steal one trillion dollars, called TARP, from taxpayers and give it to AIG and Bank of America.

8. Substantiate with facts please. The amphibians comments were regarding tortutre.
TARP was initiated under a Bush administration by his own cabinet (Paulsen et al.) members. How can you throw it at Pelosi?

The conversation is regarding torture and the absence of veracity of that fat lying lump of republican $hit - gingrich.

11. Newt Sits On High
Newt sits on high and spews his gobbledegook, trying to sound scholarly and wise.
Instead he sounds stupid and ridiculous.
Nancy Pelosi tortured no one. BUT when such a serious offense is committed by our government it seems to me all secrecy about such offense should be waived. Otherwise when scumbags get in charge of the government they can get away with...well...torture, and murder. If Pelosi or any other clear thinking person knew of this scummy behavior by our government officials, and the delighted torturing freaks who carried it out, they should have stepped forward. That much is true. But to try now, after the sh** hits the fan to blame Nancy for the crimes committed is typically Republican hypocrisy. Don't forget who came up with these crazy plans.

17. I love your phrase, "spews his gobbledegook," to characterize Gingrich's
smarminess.

It's a pile-on. Gingrich is subversive by nature. And quite full of himself.

Too early to tell, but I just don't see this guy placing first in either Iowa or New Hampshire, except in his own head.

19. Pelosi maybe should've qualified her comments a bit
Edited on Sun May-17-09 10:19 AM by Proud Liberal Dem
She should've said "Bush's CIA". I'm sure that she was not making a blanket statement about EVERYBODY at the CIA but the people Bush had sent over to "brief" her about torture might very well have been misleading her and other Democrats- even more likely given Bob Graham's recollection. Furthermore, Panetta's "not agency policy to mislead Congress" statement doesn't sound quite like the "slap" on Pelosi that the corporate mediawhores are trying to make it out to be. I'm not sure whether or not I should be surprised that Gingrich doesn't understand the concept of "nuance". :eyes:

Slightly OT: Does anybody know if this is gaining any traction among Democrats in Congress or is this BS just being peddled by the Republicans and assorted pundits right now?
