Stop helping the GOP.

Having a faulty memory of being briefed about torture - a crime which already had been committed, without your knowledge or consent - is not equivalent to engaging in torture.

9. Her last three predecessors were Hastert, Livingston and Gingrich....
Compared to them she is a gem.

Compared to what I should expect with a 50 vote majority, she is a slightly tarnished turd.

16. She's finally grown some claws
JUNGLE RED!

But seriously folks, now that Senator Bob Graham has proved that the CIA's documentation of the briefings are not reliable (only one of four briefings they have on record actually took place) she's off the hook--and simply because she decided to stand up for herself rather than "rise above it all." See what happens when you fight back, Nancy?

20. It was the Bush Administration that tortured prisoners
Nancy Pelosi has trouble remembering if she went to a briefing six years ago. There is no comparison in magnitude here.

No matter what we think of Nancy Pelosi's leadership skills, she is still a member of the Democratic Party and is actively contributing to our majority in the House of Representatives.

We simply do not need to employ right-wing attacks on one of our own. We need all the Democrats in Congress that we can get, including Nancy Pelosi

It is fine to advocate she step down as Speaker of the House because of her leadership, but to pile on with the reich-wing attacks is just wrong.

26. Let's play it out:
We throw her under the bus - Dems lose: The first name smeared has a D behind it. Does the investigation stop? We'd have bipartisan consensus that torture is illegal, and a precedent that those party to it are fair game.

We defend her - Dems lose. Dems appear to be defending the indefensable. Dose the investigation stop? Could we continue credibly pursuing the Bushies after defending Pelosi?

The only way to control the outcome of this is to get behind the wheel of the bus ourselves.

30. I don't know what you're asking.
Edited on Sat May-16-09 09:59 AM by Marr
I'm for a real, legitimate investigation of the Bush torture programs. I don't see why we should circle the wagons to protect some craven politician, when they can absolve themselves easily by just doing what their base has been demanding for years.

I would think Pelosi should now be the loudest voice pushing for a real investigation with a Special Prosecutor. I don't hear it. I've heard lots of "move forward", "put the past behind us" crap, but that's all.

32. Well, I *suspect* you're asking for a popularity vote on Nancy Pelosi.
Edited on Sat May-16-09 10:09 AM by Marr
I don't see why that's relevant.

I can tell you that I don't like her myself-- but she's earned my disapproval. She earned it with the same kind of tacit approval of the Bush agenda that's now compromised her position.

Do you disagree with my initial post?

36. Post #30? Yes, I disagree with certain fundamentalisms expressed therein
By alluding that Pelosi is "some craven politician" the matter trends toward becoming misshapen and not by accident. The ever DU-popular "I don't hear it" tack does in more cases than not require a proviso, or qualifier to include, "I don't hear it (the way *I want* to hear it)", Obama...

Voted for Cheney's energy policy back in what seems like un-recallable antique history; a prelude to war profiteering death & chaos predicated upon the geo-political acquisition of another's fossil deposits to *include* the torturous...are we to dispatch Barack Obama? Barack and everyone on down the line? Only some people? Only the people that don't say things the way we want to hear them?

37. If he's complicit in a crime, yes.
Edited on Sat May-16-09 11:03 AM by Marr
Nancy Pelosi's base has been demanding investigations into these Bush-era crimes for years. She doesn't want to do that.

If Pelosi isn't interested in doing her job-- for whatever reason-- then yes, I'd like to see here removed. If she's implicated in some crime, I'd also like to see her removed. Same goes for Obama and everyone else down the line.

I'm not here to cheer for a team. I couldn't care less about these politicians. I want them to do their jobs and if they don't, to hell with them.
