(big snips)

The hearing began with some tense moments that continued for about a half-hour.

It started when the father of one of the boys expressed anger and frustration with his son's probation officer and the boy's attorney.

The father told the judge he was angry about not being provided sufficient information about his son's case and said the boy's probation officer and a deputy district attorney had not done enough to have his son seen by a psychiatrist at the detention center.

Livingston made numerous attempts to respond to the father's concerns, but the man kept interrupting, leading the judge to tell him: "Sir, sir. You need to listen."

The face-off was followed by the youngster's attorney, Craig Rockwell, asking the judge to release him as the parents' attorney.

"I believe the parents think they can direct me, judge," Rockwell said. "It's impossible to work with them."
