REP. HODES: Well, that's what this committee's investigation is all about, following all the links in the chain from their sources to their destination. And it's been reported that Mr. Rove had a discussion with Chris Matthews about you, and the report was that Mr. Rove told Mr. Matthews, "Valerie Plame is fair game." Do you recall that?

MS. PLAME WILSON: Yes, I do.

2. Well this news is ancient...sorry
Almost everyone here, I would think, knows about Matthews' confession that Rove informed him of that. Whether it is true or not, no one know.

3. But it's important because it's the Thing we all know
but have been consistently distracted from.

There was no reason to name Valerie Plame unless naming her could harm her.

That's treason and it happened in plain sight and BushCo keeps trying to help us forget that.

I guess what I'm getting at is, hanging onto to what we know is a very important activity under this administration. Because their constant reframing erodes shared reality and tries to keep us disorganized in that way.

4. Well some people know
if it's true.

Wilson reported the call from Matthews in July 2003 in his book "The Politics of Truth". So he knows if Matthews said it to him.

Matthews knows if he got the call from Rove saying that.

rove knows if he made the call. Roves office didn't deny it.

The fact that Karl Rove was mad at former ambassador Joe Wilson and had it in for Wilson's wife has been on the record for over a year. Joe Wilson said in his book "The Politics of Truth" that MSNBC's Chris Matthews told him Rove called Wilson's wife "fair game." That conversation was never denied except that, according to Newsweek, a "source familiar with Rove's conversation" said the phrase used by Rove was that it was "reasonable to discuss who sent Wilson to Niger." That would lead to Wilson's wife.

Not sure why you called it a "confession" Matthews called Wilson and told him about it as soon as he hung up.

Joe Wilson on Democracy Now!
Chris Matthews called me and said, “I just got off the phone with Karl Rove. He says, and I quote, ‘Wilson's wife is fair game.’

Not a confession, a warning or alert to make Wilson aware. A good thing, not that it helped.
