Let's say, further, that I thought something like blacks and whites shouldn't be allowed to marry each other (something that back in the day was defended by certain Biblical passages by some Christians). 3. I was raised in a racist home...

My father used epithets against black people all the time. I began learning it was wrong when I used one of them while we were out in public and I was told to hush. Later in life I was on a bus coming back from a mall when I got a nosebleed (which I was prone to as a teen). I had nothing to stop the bleeding, but this elderly black lady came forward and started to talk with me. I tried to ignore her. She insisted on giving me a box of tissues. That was the point in my life where I learned that nothing my father said was true. People of all races are good or bad, not just blacks. I thanked her over and over and she just smiled at me.

So, no, it doesn't let you off the hook. You have the capacity to grow beyond what you're taught and if you choose to maintain the ignorance then you can blame no one but yourself.
