CBS announcer: Any U.S. soldier w/ only 2 bullets would shoot Pelosi, Reid and strangle Bin Laden
Edited on Fri May-08-09 04:55 PM by SemiCharmedQuark
From The Hill:

http://briefingroom.thehill.com/2009/05/08/cbs-announcer-any-us-soldier-would-shoot-pelosi-strangle-reid/

"CBS Sports commentator David Feherty drew criticism Friday for suggesting any U.S. soldier would murder House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) if given the chance.

"From my own experience visiting the troops in the Middle East, I can tell you this, though: despite how the conflict has been portrayed by our glorious media, if you gave any U.S. soldier a gun with two bullets in it, and he found himself in an elevator with Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, and Osama bin Laden, there's a good chance that Nancy Pelosi would get shot twice, and Harry Reid and bin Laden would be strangled to death," Feherty wrote in an a D Magazine piece welcoming former President George W. Bush back to Dallas.

Feherty, a former professional golfer who now helps call golf events for CBS, said that troops love former President Bush by contrast, and praised the former commander-in-chief for having prevented additional terrorist attacks during his time in office."

1. Well, that's pretty far up there on the delusional list.
He'll probably "clarify" his comments and insist that it was just a joke.

18. in a sense it was just a joke
the guy gets off on being outrageous. in the same article he advocated exeecuting pro-lifers and those who oppose gay marriage.

He's an attention-seeking doofus. He's best ignored imo.

23. That is not a joke. Imagine if Oberman or Maddow were to say such a thing --
about killing someone from the Bush administration. I can't imagine any commentator on the left -- or even a professional comedian like Mayer or Leno or Letterman saying any such thing. It is completely unprofessional and the hate mongers on TV and radio need to get jeered at by us just as the corporate media would if the shoe were on the other foot.

33. Considering he referred to himself as a "F-List Celebrity"...
In the header of his article, and he's only ever had 2 jobs - professional golfer and professional golf commentator - how seriously can you take the rest of the piece? I suppose one could take it very seriously if one was looking for the next source of poutrage. :eyes:

36. Threats to members of Congress should probably be taken seriously.
Even those made allegedly in jest.

Hiding behind celebrity is not an excuse.

41. Fabricating a story about shooting two members of Congress...
Edited on Sat May-09-09 01:14 PM by TwilightZone
If you don't see that as a thinly-veiled threat, particularly in light of the fact that the story is obviously false, then I can't help you.

It's the same crap Limbaugh pulls - hope to incite violence in stupid people, then claim it was just a joke.

2. What a dipstick Feherty is.
The troops loved former President Bush so much that they had to be warned by their superiors prior to a * visit regarding how they were to behave. Troops were hand picked for events. And even at that, few were smiling. Go back and look at the group photos of * and the troops. The troops don't look thrilled to be posing with the idiot son. And as the war in Iraq continued, it became more obvious.

Contrast that with the greeting President Obama received in Iraq.

Bush can take his plastic turkey and stick it somewhere. And so can Feherty. They're all bullshit idiots.

4. He doesn't give our military men and women much credit.
Even if true, which we know it's not, that would mean that the media is doing a horrible job of telling the truth AND our military is being forced to watch Fox all the time.

14. Don't be so quick to believe his characterization
My son is a Marine with 3 tours to Iraq and he voted for Obama. Bush didn't have the over-whelming military support his cabal would have you believe. There are liberals and progressives in the military. And we need them. We Dems also have many former military running for office and working for liberal causes.

30. If that's the case, where is today's "FTA?" During my time in the Army, we
knew the Vietnam war for the lie it was. I don't see that in the modern military, at least not sufficient to end these bogus adventures.

9. From my experience BEING one of "our troops" in Viet Nam
NO (except for a few rightwingnut) US Soldier, Sailor, Airman, or Marine would shoot any congressperson if they found themselves in an elevator with them.

What a dirtbag, to say that "Duty, Honor, Country" - the true core values of ANY military - do not exist in the US Army!

(The Army is the only branch of the military with "soldiers" in it. A fact that escaped Bush when he was campaigning in Everett Wash and refereed to the "soldiers" in the US Navy warships behind him. Marines do not consider themselves "soldiers" (they consider themselves Marines), and the US Army soldiers agree with them.)

40. Absofuckinglutely.
While I detest an "all-volunteer" (professional?) military and strongly advocate universal service, there's just no way in Hell any but a VERY few soldiers would harbor even the pretense of such an intent.

By far, the overwhelming majority of soldiers regard their service to this country to be an honorable endeavor, even if they're appalled by how they're being deployed and the political 'objectives.' It is entirely possible (and NECESSARY) to serve with honor even in a dishonorable war.

I saw him awhile ago and he walked up to Tiger Woods and asked "Do you feel like a loser?" Tiger laughed it off of course since he's hardly worried about being a loser unlike Mr. Feherty.

DAVID FEHERTY

David Feherty was born in the seaside town of Bangor in Northern Ireland. He grew up wanting to become an opera singer, until he discovered he had the knack for hitting a golf ball. David enjoyed a very successful professional career, with 10 victories worldwide and over $3 million in prize money. David Feherty also played on the European Ryder Cup Team in 1991; an experience that rejuvenated his fervor for golf.

David Feherty's newest challenge is his job as a golf commentator for CBS Sports. "I always enjoyed talking more than playing and now CBS is paying me for what I like to do most." David's quick wit and colorful personality on the course adds a new dimension to golf telecasts. His knowledge of the game and Tour experience give him instant credibility.

David Feherty's success does not end with the microphone. He is also an author, currently writing for Golf Magazine and Golf Online. David demonstrates his lighthearted spirit in the clinics and outings he performs throughout the year. David Feherty's goal is to encourage those around him to look at golf and life with the same selfless manner and enjoyment he does.

26. From what I'm reading about him...
he's been treated for depression and alcoholism.

http://www.cbs.com/info/user_services/fb_global_form.php

Feherty still isn’t sure if he drank because he was depressed or was depressed because he drank. For a long time he didn’t realize what was wrong, that he had a mental illness.

Explains a lot...so maybe he was drunk and/or crazy when he spewed.

Holy $hit. Endorsing the violent murder of the Speaker of the House and Senate Majority Leader? (Yeah, yeah, he was supposedly recounting what "the troops" would think, but his approval of the message is clear.)

Way way way way way over the line.

Here's the link to CBS Sports, if you have any feedback for them on their employee.
