Hong Kong Reports Mainland Chinese Eating Infants (GRAPHIC)
This is not an April Fool's joke.

Hong Kong Reports Mainland Chinese Eating Infants
The Next Magazine
Mar 29, 2007

You have to be kidding right? Unfortunately this is really happening!

The Next Magazine, a weekly publication from Hong Kong, reported that infant corpses and fetuses have become the newest supplements for health and beauty in China. Not only is the placenta considered a beauty remedy, but also aborted fetuses are much sought after delicacies. In Guangdong, gourmet body parts are in high demand and can even be purchased through hospitals. The magazine's investigations into this form of cannibalism took them to Liaoning province.

According to The Next Magazine, during a banquet hosted by a Taiwanese businessman, a servant Ms Liu from Liaoning province on the mainland inadvertently revealed the habit of eating infants/fetuses in Liaoning province and her intention to return for the supplement due to health concerns. The Taiwanese women present were horrified.

1. This goes so far beyond the times and traditions of the era of Mao
where starvation was the compelling reason for the Chinese eating ANY animal, including dogs and cats.

4. "Next" is the National Inquirer of Hong Kong . . .
but with better graphics and even more outrageous claims.

Of course, given human nature anything is possible, but if you read about it in Next, it's probably not true.

11. It's not true.
I take that back...it's as true as the incidence of cannibalism in the US is. Are there crazy people who've eaten humans? Yes.

But from reading this again, I think this is most likely Taiwanese propaganda intended to create anti-Chinese hysteria in the West.

This is crap. There is nothing much good about the fascist government of china, but eating babies is not one of their problems.

9. I call bullshit.
I know firsthand how strange and exotic Chinese tastes in food are. Now maybe some eat placentas...if so, I don't think that'd be unique to the Chinese. But aborted fetuses? I find that repulsive as most Chinese would.

Here's the money shot: "Since Mao's Cultural Revolution, a complete lack of morality and respect for human life has become the norm in China."

The agenda of this "news source" is to portray Chinese as inhuman. I find this totally disgusting and a complete insult that crap like this is posted here without serious attribution.

13. This was the plot of a movie
It was called Dumplings, and the fetuses were made into potstickers. It is a very good film.

23. You mean this? To be honest, it sounds revolting... but makes
the OP even less likely.

Dumplings (film)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dumplings_(film)Dumplings (Gaau ji) is a 2004 Hong Kong horror film, directed by Fruit Chan. It was expanded from a short segment in the horror compilation, Three... Extremes.
It was premiered in the United Kingdom during the Cardiff Screen Festival, on November 11, 2005.
Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.
A rich woman, Mrs. Li, is losing her attractiveness and longs for passion with her husband. In order to boost her image, she seeks out the help of Aunt Mei, a local chef. Mei cooks her some special dumplings which she claims to be effective for rejuvenation. Later it is found out that the special ingredients are unborn fetuses that have been taken from the abortion clinic Mei previously worked for. After Mrs. Li finds out, she is initially outraged and runs away, but later comes back to eat the fetus. She keeps seeking more potent stuff, until one day she is in luck: Mei had just performed a black market abortion operation on a schoolgirl five months pregnant who has been impregnated by her father. Mei makes this into a dumpling, which Mrs. Li devours, and this has a wondrous effect on her libido, and she goes into the hospital and makes love with her husband. Mr. Li overhears a conversation between his wife and Mei about what happened, and pays the latter a visit, inquiring into whether it really works. Mr. Li eats one of her dumplings, makes love to Mei, whom he finds out is 64, but with the body of a slender 35 year old. She puts her looks down to her cannibalism.
Soon after, it is revealed that Mr. Li has impregnated his masseuse; and when Mrs. Li catches word of this she pays her to have it aborted, insisting to the doctor that the baby comes out alive. From then on it is assumed that Mrs. Li continues the work of Aunt Mei, and takes to making fetus dumplings.

I'd treat this with about the same amount of seriousness as those News of the World stories about alien bat children of Ross Perot.

In the original, the alleged baby-eating took place in Taiwan; here it is Taiwanese businessmen on the mainland.

Where do I begin? "Ms Liu" has to return for to China for the supplement--yet Ms Liu escorted the reporter to a "location where the fetus was being prepared?"

C'mon--let's put on our critical thinking caps, alright?

According to The Next Magazine, during a banquet hosted by a Taiwanese businessman, a servant Ms Liu from Liaoning province on the mainland inadvertently revealed the habit of eating infants/fetuses in Liaoning province and her intention to return for the supplement due to health concerns. The Taiwanese women present were horrified.

Ms Liu also disclosed that even though people can afford the human parts there are still waiting lists and those with the right connections get the "highest quality" human parts, which translates to the more mature fetuses. A male fetus is considered the "prime" human part.

At the The Next Magazine's request, Ms Liu personally escorted the reporter to a location where a fetus was being prepared. The reporter observed a woman chopping up a male fetus and making soup from the placenta. During the process, the woman even tried to comfort everyone by saying, "Don't be afraid, this is just the flesh of a higher animal."
