When I was a USCGA cadet and was a sideboy for JFK when he reviewed the USCGC Eagle at the Washington Navy Yard in the summer of 1962, LBJ was there too. While even then it was noteworthy when the POTUS and VPOTUS attended the same event, the security of the Navy Yard was deemed sufficient to permit such attendance. (The SecTreas was there, too, of course.)
