KNOWING that Harry is supporting the torture Judge who should be impeached (Judge Jay Bybee)and KNOWING how little spine Harry has, I am positive he will find a way to screw this up. As Are-grits-groceries made a great point, don't give the Pukes his seats back, and block a resolution to maintain the 60/40 split. But knowing Harry, he'll cave like a wet refrigerator box.

6. That spineless piece of shit would fuck up a 90 - 10 majority.
Even if the 90 were all ACTUAL Democrats, he'd still make an excuse.

Reid is useless. It's time for a real Majority leader.

7. Why should we be allowed to keep those seats?
Edited on Tue Apr-28-09 06:42 PM by Occam Bandage
Those aren't Specter's seats; those are the Republican seats they deserve given the party makeup of the Senate. We'll need to rearrange the Senate both for the party swap of Arlen Specter and for the addition of Al Franken. That might change the membership of a committee or two, but not to the extent that we would get an extra in every committee Specter is a member of--and we certainly can't keep both the chairmanship and ranking member spots in the committees in which Specter holds rank. We play by the rules.

12. The solution isn't to be even worse than they are.
For the Democrats to simply steal seats from the Republicans would be little different from if we were to vote on a rule to the Senate rules of order letting only Democrats have the floor. It would be a shocking abuse of power. So would what you are proposing.

16. There's a difference between "fighting hard" and "abuse of power."
I'm in favor of sticking it to those fuckers in every legal way possible. I'm not in favor of casting aside the rule of law whenever it is inconvenient.

15. right
On principles and ideals we can compromise all day long in order to be "practical" and "realistic" so that "we" can "win." But when it comes to etiquette and courtesy, no one is more gracious than our Democrats.

18. Fine. Why not just take every single committee seat?
Why not pass a rule making it so only Democrats can take the floor, propose bills, or vote on bills? Why not just simply refuse to seat any Republicans to the Senate again?

19. enormous gap
There is an enormous gap between what the Democrats actually do and what the Republicans do. It is not two and only two choices.

10. I would be flabbergasted if Reid ever did much of ANYTHING right.
I'm sure Reid will continue to find ways to ignore the base and cave to conservatives- some how, some way.

13. Get ready for the GOP to go all out on Franken
Edited on Tue Apr-28-09 06:49 PM by DainBramaged
Perhaps now the Democrats in Washington will care about the Franken race, because they sure rolled over and played dead up until now. Had the Dems only challenged Coleman earlier, forced him to concede the way that they'd have forced us were the situation reversed, perhaps we'd have sixty seats today. Oh well, another profile in Democratic courage that ends up biting us in the behind.

http://www.americablog.com/2009/04/get-ready-for-gop-to-go-all-out-on.html

the GOP just lost a seat on every committee that Specter sat on. They can't reassign Specter's seat to another GOP Senator without a new organizing resolution, something we can block.

21. Harry Reid is magnificently incompetent.
I fully expect him to give the Republicans chairmanship of several committees just to make them feel better.

Also Al Franken won't be seated until 2013.
