Is your Volvo kosher for Passover?

Teaneck, N.J.

It’s not easy to find the gas station where Yaniv Ben-Zaken will be selling kosher-for-Passover gasoline during the holiday this year.

In fact, if not for a story in The Bergen County Jewish Times that’s been widely circulated on the Internet, even most people in Teaneck, which is heavily Jewish and increasingly Orthodox, might never have had the chance to debate the merits of his innovative approach to Jewish dietary laws.

So a random survey taken on Cedar Lane, Teaneck’s main drag — of people doing Passover shopping at Judaica House Ltd., inspecting women’s hats at My Fair Lady, filling up on nonkosher gas at Larry’s Sunoco — indicated that you didn’t have to make it to Mr. Ben-Zaken’s gas station to have a position on his plan. A position that usually began with a rolling of eyeballs.

1. What makes kosher gasoline kosher?
I'm actually interested to hear, because this is the first time I've heard of anything like this...

7. As long as it's served on a separate plate it's kosher
Don't, do not, I repeat, let it touch any dairy products!

2. How is gasoline kosher or not kosher? Whether the dinosaur was circumcised?
Should the petroleum not be refined in milk? Can it only be from dinosaurs with cloven hooves?

4. Can't have ethanol-ized gas due to corn content.

http://www.israelforum.com/blog_article.php?aid=638263

Had to search, had no idea what kosher gas was.

Basically, the ethanol added to gasoline makes it non-kosher due to corn content. They are not allowed to derive any benefit from corn.

So they will pay nearly $10.00 a gallon for non-ethanol gas, which took special permits to get.

6. That's odd.
So if you treated corn flour the same way that wheat or barley flour is treated for making passover matzohs, and made matzoh with the corn flour, by definition they couldn't be kosher for passover?

9. We Found Kosher Potato Chips!!!!
What'll they think of next? Kosher for Passover Bacon???

My mother was very serious about Passover...to the extent of having a second kitchen she'd use just for the holidays. Every year there was some "new" kosher "treat"...which always tasted like plaster.

10. Welcome April -
According to my brother-in-law, the Conservative-leaning-Orthodox rabbi this is a hoax.

Do I feel dumb.

Did you hear about the failed spaghetti harvest in Italy?
