I guess the new Republican talking point is "Banana Republic".
I have heard it from three different Repubs in the last two hours.

These people need a new shtick.

3. My thought exactly.
Look who's talking. When it comes to accusing people of using banana republic-like tactics, the Republicans really should keep their mouths shut.

8. Never...that's the point; Rightists almost always project: imputing to others....
...that which they themselves are guilty of, more fully represent, and are unconsciously fearful of.

2. well.......
Down to the Banana Republic
Down to the tropical sun
Go the expatriated Americans
Hoping to find some fun

Some of them go for the sailn'
Called by the lure of the sea
Trying to find what is ailing
From living in the land of the free

Some of them are running from lovers
Leaving no forward address
Some of them are running tons of ganga
Some are running from the IRS

And late at night you will find them
In the cheap hotels & bars
Hustling the senoritas while they dance beneath the stars

Spending those renegade pesos
On a bottle of rum & a lime
Singing, give me some words I can dance to
Or a melody that rhymes

First you learn the native customs
Soon a word of Spanish or two
But you know that you cannot trust them
Cause they know they can't trust you

Expatriated Americans feeling so all alone
Telling themselves the same lies
That they told themselves back home
Down to the Banana Republic things aren't as warm as they seem
When none of the natives are buying any second hand American dreams

4. they have a NEW talking point!
Just heard that Steele wants to "officially" change the name "Democrat" to "Socialist!"That is correct, he wants the Parties to be referred to as 'Republican" and "Socialist." So sayeth Steel, and I am sure that Hannity, Beck, Coulter, Rush et.al. will adopt this lingo from here on. They are bitter nutcases, no doubt about it.

11. I always thought Banana Republic was clothes
Edited on Thu Apr-23-09 05:46 PM by JonLP24
But learning what a Banana Republic has lead me to this interesting article with this ironic paragraph.

---------------------
And so Obama's refusal to investigate war crimes is itself against the law. And so torture's cancerous route through the legal and constitutional system continues, contaminating the future as well as the past, rendering the US incapable of upholding Geneva against other nations, because it has violated Geneva itself, and giving to every tyrant on the planet a justification for the torture of prisoners.

In this scenario, America becomes a city on a hill, where the rule of law is optional and torture acceptable if parsed into legal memos that do not pass the most basic professional sniff-test.

America becomes a banana republic.
